Speed and Quality Normally you have to choose between speed and quality in a printer, but I was blown away by the Brother MFC-J985DW XL. I actually laughed out loud at how fast it printed the first text pages I sent through. Then I used my house wifi to send a photo from my phone to print on a plain white piece of paper and it was not only FAST it almost looked as good as some crappier printers print on photo paper. So incredibly impressed! Incredibly easy to set up, especially because the menu is a touch screen. It's also a... read more

Awesome printer--EASY SET UP! Our family LOVES this new printer! We have three sturdents (2 college and 1 high school), and it seems we are usually running out of ink or our printer fand have just been heading over to Kinko's or the school print lab to print or make copies. This wonderful printer comes with a ton of ink, unlike the Canon printers which comes with a mere sample ink supply--for the cost of the ink, it seems like you should just get a qhole new printer. We have had Canon printers (3!) and the set up on those is... read more

So far, so good. Better quality than HP. Great product so far! I've had this printer for about a week and so far I'm very impressed. I had a lot of printers over the years and all of them have been HP. After destroying my old HP printer by putting off brand ink in it (their ink and new ink refill program are really expensive), I decided to try a Brother. I print a decent volume of items, but usually in batches, so I may not print much for a few months, then print a couple hundred pages in a couple days. With the HP auto refi... read more

Great little compact printer with two-sided printing capability - all you would expect from a modern printer. Great little printer with two-sided printing capability: it does everything I would expect it to, easy to set up, prints clear, and works great! It does the all-in-one functions (copy, scan, etc) that one would expect from a modern printer. Connects wirelessly and via USB. Jury is still out on the high yield ink: that will take some time to vet. This is a nice small size for desks and smaller spaces. Because of this,... read more

Really nice all-in-one. . . .if you don't print too much. This is one of those situations where you really have to do your research to make sure this is the right machine for you. Here’s who will benefit most from this printer. . . • Someone who doesn’t print a lot. If you print a lot, then laser / wax printers might be a better option. • Someone who needs the scanner / fax / copy function, but doesn’t need a portable scanner. • Someone who likes the “all-in-one” features of this machine. This printer is easy to set-up. It’s... read more

Great All-in-one right out of the box I use an all-in-one for my home office and when I got this I replaced an Epson WF-3640. The Pros: Super easy and fast set up with my wireless network and OSX El Capitan. The ink color is much richer than the Epson Color copying was incredibly accurate in color/saturation Relatively quiet printing Easy to save money with fast 2 sided printing. The Cons: There is only one paper tray, and it doesn't hold a lot (maybe 1/8 of a ream)? The touch screen is tiny. This printer is slimmer, faster,... read more

Interesting variation on the standard printer business model So... This is an interesting variation on the standard printer business model. I have purchased many multi-function printers (HP and Cannon mostly) over the years and this one is as good as any of them: Looks good, prints good, simple setup, no complaints about scanning or wireless functionality- all well integrated with Windows 10. However, these are usually sold as loss-leaders and they make their money back on outrageously marked up ink and the printer usually h... read more

Great all-in-one except it's slow I love electronic devices and wanted to love this Brother MFC-J985DW all-in-one printer but I don't. It is slow. Very slow. Like, it took twice as long to print as compared to my HP all-in-one printer. I do love that it saves on ink, which is a huge savings overall. It was super easy to install the cartridges and set up. It printed great from my cell phone. The touch screen display is nice and easy to read. The only con I have with this printer is the speed. If you don't have a problem waiti... read more

Fast, Efficient and Inexpensive! A Great Printer! I love this printer! It's also a copier, fax, and scanner. I bought the less expensive model when we were in Germany and it worked great there too. We were scanning our father's photographs and slides because at the age of 95, he had to move into a Senior Living home. So we had to clean the place out and there were so many pictures we decided to scan them all. Well this machine worked perfectly and we got everything scanned, and it was too big to take home with us and it also... read more
