A hassle to set up and stopped working after a few prints I hate this printer already. It has been an aggravation to set up and once I got it working, it's done a few print jobs and a few scans and stopped working already. Who has time for continually trying to troubleshoot what should be routine printer set-up? Save yourself some time and get something that works well out of the box.
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE PRODUCT - If I could write a negative review I would This printer is the worst one we have in the office. The older brother printers we still have in the office all work better than this one. It is plugged directly into my computer and yet, often I have to restart it for it to scan or print... and some days it only does one or the other. I hate this printer. It wastes my time, and I would never repurchase this.
The mfvL5900DW never worked from the moment I began the setup process. I bought this brand new for around $350. followed the setup instructions but it kept shutting itself off. After 90 minutes on the phone w/ Brother Support they said there is nothing they can do. Take it to a service center. I wanted a replacement. They said I must go thru Amazon.com since they sold it to me. They left me and my business up the creek because I need this printer right now. Never again will I buy Brother.
Unreliable, smudgy printing. Terrible Brother support Had this printer working fine for 4 months, then it started smudging and ghosting print images. Brother was helpless to this, even after paying $160 for a replacement drum unit. Extremely difficult support, and unreliable device.
"Replace toner" Loved the printer until it decided to tell me I HAD to change the toner. The few brother printers I've had before had simple overrides but Brother seems to have worked a little harder on this one and I can't figure out how to print checks at my office despite the fact that the printer was printing flawlessly before the shut down. Major software / driver issues Of the five or so printers I've purchased in my life, this has been the worst from a software / driver standpoint. Every time I use the printer, I have to run the Windows troubleshooter, and sometimes that doesn't work either (and I'm left with a printer that doesn't print). I've tried everything - reinstalling the driver, calling customer support, uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, and it's a headache every time I want to print something. DO NOT BUY! Keeps falling off the network. Doesn’t work consistently. This product is not worth the money invested.
Prints w/ extra toner all over first pages Fabulous printer except that toner always is riddled all over the first couple of pages that print out. And while I can clean it the internals of the printer per the instructions, it's like I have to do it every time, and even then there is a little.
Brother MFC L5900DW trips AFCI circuit breaker I purchased the Brother MFC L5900DW Printer for my home office. This is a large business class printer, which has a large current draw. My home office is on a 15 amp circuit in our new home with AFCI circuit breakers (AFCI circuit breakers are required by code in new homes since 2008 - in most states.
