I'm sure these guys do really good work. I use them one time several years ago. But since then they've gone to this model where they have a sales guy and a technician in your house. They're very professional, but the pricing is not reasonable. I got three estimates for a job that I needed done. It wasn't that big of a deal replacing a toilet And some. First off they tried to charge me $700 for a toilet that was $350 at Home Depot. The labor for the rest of the work I needed was $1000. I got two more estimates and both were 2... read more

Dave, We appreciate your feedback and very sorry to lose you as a client. We understand that pricing is a critical factor in your decision-making process, and we want to assure you that we continuously evaluate our pricing structure to ensure that it reflects the value we provide. We apologize our team failed at creating this value for you. Sincerely, Sean Counsil Service manager
Needed to fix a leaky faucet. Scheduled a visit with Mike Council plumbing on 12/21/23. Two technicians arrived to assess the situation. Took a look at the faucet (installed brand new less than 2 years ago) and immediately decided that it needs replacement. I asked if it can be fixed and they said that it is very hard to find parts. It's a new faucet and they are supposedly professionals. Strange. They gave me a quote of $700 (or 400 if I buy a faucet) and left. Today I got the faucet fixed by someone else. He took the time... read more
Business response:
Michael, I can understand your frustration. Our technicians are trained to offer both repair and replacement options on most faucet issues. Replacement often makes the most sense, in your situation a repair was more suitable. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, so we can continue to reiterate to our team the importance of both options. Again, our sincere apologies for the poor service. Sincerely, Sean Counsil Service manager
I gave 1 star only because there was no option for zero stars. Several months ago while i was on vacation a water pipe burst in our basement. My wife was home, and she called the Los Altos fire department. 5 stars to them, they turned off the water main and helped her clean up the huge mess. My wife contacted Mike Council and they came round the following day. Their report said all the pipes were corroded and had to be replaced. Their minimum repair option was $11466, a complete copper pipe replacement option was $30041, t... read more
Business response:
Thomas, It's always a concern for us when we have a situation that a pipe burst and caused a huge mess and it only took $350 to address the situation. This is rarely a long term solution to a potential more serious underlying issue. Spending minimal money to keep your home in sound working order rarely equate to good service or professional sound advice. It's Unfortunate Mr. handyman has led you askew regarding professionalism and long term solutions, including painting a false narrative of a reputable organization built o... read more
My mother in law, who is in her mid-70s, had a water heater that wasn't lighting. We called Mike Counsil who said they could do it immediately. A guy named Jose came over, took a look, and said it would cost $7,251 to install a new premium water heater, which they recommended. They said they could fix it for $1774 but that it could break again in a year and then we'd have to get a new one. So we got another bid from a different company that installed a **new water heater** for just over $1,800, about the same price as Mike ... read more
Business response:
Michael, Our premium package water heater comes with a 40 year warranty. That means your mother-in-law or any family member never pays for another water heater in 40 years. On average water heaters last 8-10 years. If you had all the information before posting a nefarious review perhaps you could better understand that it's one of the greatest values when it comes to equipment/appliance investment in a home today. Furthermore, we give other options in our standard and deluxe packages which are about 1/3 and half the pri... read more
I called to see if they would install a seat bidet and butt dryer on my toilet. My interlocutor said she was transferring me to someone who would take care of me. Then I was cut off and no one called back, even though they had my coordinates.
Business response:
Chester, We want to apologize for dropping the ball on communication. I understand the frustration it may have caused, and we take full responsibility. Our commitment to clear and timely communication is vital, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. I'm actively working to address the issue and ensure better communication moving forward. Thank you for your understanding. Sincerely, Sean Counsil Service manager
I need to remind people that this company has consistently made a practice of trying to fool its customers. A few years ago, when they replaced my water pipes, their rep forged a financial document that would have overcharged me several thousand dollars. I caught it just in time. So today I decided to check up to see if their tactics have changed. Apparently not, judging by the comments. Wow. I am old, so maybe they target oldsters. Or maybe women? Or maybe they just try it on everybody and see who bites. Buy... read more
Business response:
Dorothy, We're sorry you feel this way. Our company prides itself on honesty and integrity. We're open and candid that we're not the plumbing experience for you if you're on a budget. This document you describe was likely a mistake. People do make them. We also have hundreds of 5 star reviews not only on this site, but many others where our clients commend our services. We're a family owned and operated business that treat our clients as if it was our own mother or grandmother. Our prices are higher than others ( not the h... read more
Stay away from this company. They will try to scam you. I was quoted $1100 for a routine leaky faucet cartridge replacement. After researching, I realized a new Delta shower cartridge costs $70. I did the repair myself. Took an hour and saved a thousand dollars. It really is a shame companies like this are successful taking advantage of those who don't know better.
Business response:
Hi Mark, Sorry we didn't do a better job at creating value in our services. So disheartening to see your perception of our company. I would ascertain it took you an hour of research on You Tube, an hour of your time to pick up the part and an hour of your time to to do the work. 3 hours of your time minimum. Glad you were able to take care of your own plumbing issue. Regards Sean Counsil Service manager
I got in touch with them through their website. When the guy called to confirm the appointment I asked if there was a charge to come out. He didn't give me an answer so I asked again. This time he paused for a long time and said "We'll let you know when we call you to confirm the appointment tomorrow." That's not how business works. If there's a trip charge, you quote it up front in a clear, concise manner.
Business response:
Hi David, We apologize for our ineffective communication. I can assure you that all of our staff is trained on informing potential clients upfront while booking the appointment regarding our $89 trip charge. We'll be sure to focus on additional training regarding this issue you presented. Again, our sincere apologies. Sincerely, Sean Counsil Service manager
Jose showed up an hour late to provide an estimate and wasted my time. I showed him the scope of the work, and advised I was taking quotes from other vendors. Jose then told me MC was a premium plumbing service and very expensive. He also stated he would prefer to quote part of the job, but not the more difficult aspects of the work I needed done. He obviously didn't want to do the work. I told him that was the scope and that was what I wanted quoted. He said he would need to write some notes and excused himself to his truck... read more
