The cleaner does the job but looking at the device and its construction the price is too high. Polaris is making a lot of profit on these units. If it was something new on the market I would understand it but his devise has not changed in years. Plastic hasn't gone up that much.
I would not own a pool without a pool vac, makes keeping it clean a lot easier. This is my second one the first one lasted almost fourteen years with only moderate repair towards the end of life cycle.
My "old" model 380 (about 10 yrs old) wasn't working very well, to "fix" cost about as much as a new one. My Poll Service people recommended I get a 280 model instead of a 380, because you had made some good changes to the 280 - and it was all i needed. They were correct.
