I've had very good experiences with this clinic -- while the waits can be long and I try to avoid it during its vaccination days, they have always provided very good care of my pets when they've been ill at affordable prices. My cat had 2 separate scares. My mother, who is from Hong Kong, said that my cat had gone through "The Ghost Gate" twice now (had a brush with death) and this clinic saw her through both times without selling me anything extraneous. Dr. Basham was very friendly, and the vet tech not only remembered... read more

I think Companion Pet Clinic is great! The staff are great, especially Dr. Beverly Basham, who really knows her stuff. I've been taking my three dogs there for about a year and have a great respect for their thoughtful, compassionate, and knowledgeable care of my precious dogs!

You know, I've read quite a few horror stories about Companion, and I'm really sorry for these people - but I have to say I've been going here on and off for 10 years and never had any big problems. You do get what you pay for. It's a saying for a reason. Companion is the cheapest vet in town as far as I know. Correct me if I'm wrong please. You end up waiting long periods of time, so don't come here in a rush. Bring a book. I found the staff to be just fine; not bitchy or rude. (I did hear them doing a lot of BS-ing & gos... read more

When I adopted my dog from the humane society Bridge City was listed as her vet. I took her in for all check ups, nail trims, and the one time my dog was really sick. They took great care of us and were really no nonsense. Then all of a sudden there was a whole new staff of vets. I asked for my old vet and was told she was "on sebatical". I went to the new vet and she was ok. Did the job. Then all of a sudden, that whole new staff of vets was gone and then the office became Animal Wellness Center. That shied me away ... read more

I took both of my dogs here and was very impressed. I have one Italian greyhound that is very scared and has a lot of fear behaviors; normally she has to be sedated at the vet. Due to the calm, patient and professional manner of the vet and staff she did great, it was such a relief. The vet seemed to take his time and was knowledgeable. I would definitely go here again.

Three months into moving to Portland my only friend at the time/sweet cat Meow Meow got horrendously sick, so I brought her to Companion Pet Clinic to get her checked out. Long sad story (that's making me cry a little as I type, actually) short, she was far gone into liver failure and I ended up having to put her to sleep. Oh. God. Really, losing a pet is up there on the Worst Things Ever list. I remember sitting in a Walgreen's parking lot having to make the decision to put her down, and I really didn't think I could do it... read more

This clinic is very affordable, walk-in based, and friendlier than a kitten before it has claws. Took a cat here after he had mysteriously broken his front left paw. The X-ray was more than half the cost a couple other places quoted. These people are understanding when it comes to paying the bill. They do everything possible to get the job done at whatever level you can afford and they do it right.

Unfortunately this business has declined since we started coming here. They're no longer interested in the care and just focused on seeing as many pets as possible. You're now referred out for any needs. They can't accommodate any needs of the pets and instead just require full sedation (this is dangerous) for even basic vaccines such as heart worm. This has never happened in our past years of care. This could be directly because of seeing Dr Duffy but the office staff seemed like patients being upset with her demeanor was n... read more

$40 for a nail trim (!!!) and the tech suggested so many costly things that my cat didn't need. I miss the old place that was here.

Business response:

Amanda, we understand that veterinary care can be costly, which is why we always try to accommodate our clients to the best of our ability. We offer a variety of treatment options so that you may select a less costly alternative, if possible, so please don't hesitate to voice your concerns to your veterinarian during your next visit. We aim to provide you with the information and educational resources to make the most informed decision for your pet. Please let us know if we can answer any of your questions!
