I have a 10 year old cat with tummy troubles who has had $2000 of vet care in the past 6 months. He was stable on a high-quality canned food for several months, but the newest shipment of food mysteriously changed texture, and he got worse on it. We have a vet whom we really like who understands that people have budget limitations, but she's hard for us to get to. When I called Pure Paws, the person who answered the phone said that the vet could help us find a substitute non-prescription food, so we decided to come. At th... read more
I really want to like this place. The reception staff is friendly and welcoming. It's also walking distance from my apartment. But on 3 occasions, I've been sorely disappointed in the service my dog was given. A few months back, my dog had a rotten tooth. I brought him in to get checked out, and the vet took him in for a quick look. She then said his teeth were fine, he just had black gums. I felt reassured and went home, took a closer look, and sure enough, it was still a rotten tooth. Another time, my dog had broken his ... read more
So, I brought my cat in because he was having issues that I knew were associated with his teeth. I'm very attached to him, so I'm crying in the office. Vet tells me she feels a lump. I freak out. They take an x-ray and charge me $100 to have a specialist look at it. All good at this point. They say they will call the next day with results. I know they close early, I wait it out. Call 5 minutes before they close. The specialist is on vacation. So results are delayed. Again, I am crying on the phone. I wait two days. Still n... read more
A scam. Totally confused as to why they won't renew the prescription for my cat's food. They have never once cared about my cat's diet. When I have asked them for advice over the years they just smile and say it depends. The only reason I have a prescription is that a vet who no longer works there recommended it several years ago as he thought it was important that my cat eat this food. The vets who currently work there do not care and do not respond to my questions about the best food for my pet. Then why are they forcing m... read more
I'm convinced this place is a scam. I scheduled an annual health and wellness check up for my 7 month old kitten and Dr Carrie Mann (and her assistant) just weighed him and listened to his heart beat. I mistakenly mentioned to Dr. Mann that my kitten sometimes scratches his ears, and she decided to take an ear wax samples to test for bacteria or yeast. Dr. Mann also wanted me to consider a $500 echocardiogram test for a possible heart murmur....?! Overall, this vet is not as thorough as I was hoping, they just seem a li... read more
No idea if this is actually a good vet or not, as they canceled my appointment so many times, they never actually saw my dog to treat her. The people scheduling appointments are incredibly incompetent and the whole experience has been a waste of time and a complete farce.
Do not take your dog here. MY DOG DIED! Three years ago, my dog, Roxie, was getting sick and we couldn't explain it. We took her here and they informed us that if she had surgery to remove her uterus because, it had ruptured, she would live. I was a student at the time and with tears in my eyes, the vet asked for my last $2000 so that they could, as he put it, "save [my] baby and she would not have to be euthenized." I then put my sick dog through the tremendous torture of this surgery at the doctors suggestion. Two weeks ... read more
They are way too quick to jump to surgery. My cat has reoccurring infections and has been on antibiotics for most of her life. I talk in great lengths with the vets she goes to and know what I'm talking about. My kitty went in for a simple incision to drain an abscess and the surgeon decided not to pt a drain in (as other vets have done in the past). Not only did the swelling come back but the incision area became overgrown with infection that doubles in size over night. The vet COMPLETELY IGNORED the festering wound and sai... read more
