The San Jose Behavioral Health Hospital was VERY helpful for our son. He actually responded rather quickly which shocked me since there was talk of going to a Behavior facility prior & he just freaked out. The entire staff was amazing from the intake Man Edwin, Receptionists, & go course the entire staff on the Pacifica Unit. Nick really enjoyed them & said they were " very nice" Laura, the Social worker & Janet from the Financial dept, along w/the 2 Psychiatrists Dr. Daveys & Dr Shull were were all outstanding. When we we... read more

The staff is super friendly the mental health technician's all care about you and routinely check up every 15 minutes. The food is excellent and five star quality. The therapy sessions and activity time our well-planned out. I can't say enough things about San Jose behavioral health and how well I feel after being there for eight days

I'm giving it 2 stars only because of the nurses and BHAs, most of the ones I encountered were nice. However! There was no real care, just put on meds and pretty much left to my own devices. Once a day, early morning, the "doctor" would come in basically yelling "good morning!" and then asked a few questions and that was it; no therapy whatsoever. I was in the Tahoe unit (a higher level of care supposedly, but actually it's for patients with more severe mental health issues), an all female unit, at first, where there is noth... read more

Working at San Jose Behavioral Health is not for the faint of heart. To be honest, you'd have to be completely out of your mind to tolerate the conditions here. Patient Care: The quality of care is extremely poor. Patients often complain about foul odors, including sewer smells, which reflects a lack of basic facility maintenance. Staffing & Qualifications: There is a chronic shortage of employees, and many staff members are placed in roles for which they are not qualified. California regulations for proper treatment are r... read more

I spent the most degrading and humiliating week of my life at the San Jose Behavioral Health "Hospital." On arrival my clothes were taken from me down to and including my underwear, a violation of the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act. Then some pervert arrived to inspect my naked self. I spent a week wearing paper pajamas. The regimentation and lack of privacy was what one would expect from a place where people are held involuntarily: ankle monitors to track every movement, body checks every 15 minutes, name checks at every acti... read more

If you have options, avoid this place. The sad reality is that many patients don't have options. If you find yourself in this position, like my family, be prepared for a serious lack of transparency and communication. Additionally, if your period of care starts over the weekend, don't expect the patient to receive anything but the bare minimum of care, and by that I mean a place to sleep and food that the patient will need to request themselves, until Monday. My loved one was not even given an orientation or their prescribe... read more

Half a star. Really, this is just a private equity prison run for profit not for patients. No one can reach any staff by telephone. No social workers, no qualified doctors that have graduated from a US medical school. Avoid at all costs. No one inquires about medication history. Kaiser uses this because it is the cheapest option they can find in the SF Bay area.

I was told there was 1 nurse per 16 kids. Took 4 days to give a kid her deck of cards. Fed meat to the vegetarian child. Roomed a girl with a boy because they mixed up their admissions. Took 4 days to talk to doc or social worker. Made no med changes the first 4 days of a 5 day stay. Extremely limited visiting hours, 1 hour on 3 days per week. Ankle monitors on everyone. Lost kid's belongings. Didn't notice kid wasn't eating. Kid came out thinner, paler, more distressed, less stable than on admission, and with a new lice inf... read more

DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY For a minor child- No report of admission assessment. No call from social worker to interview parents for admission. No doctor assessment until the second day No report from doctor following assessment. Incorrectly stated that patient has no prescriptions. No personal belongings (book, underwear) given to patient for up to 48 hours. IF Kaiser says they will transfer your child here, do not consent. .
