Well, I have waited a long time to write this review. This is simply my experience: I began to suffer from extreme PTSD symptoms early January 2016. I was hospitalized three different times and my outpatient therapist recommended a "higher level of care" and by that she meant "residential treatment". I had not been to treatment before. I really benefited from the multi-faceted approach at TK. They use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), art, exercise, as well as 12 step recovery tools. The program has a strong focus on eating disorders; however I went for substance abuse and management of my bipolar disorder. I would definitely recommend TK for anyone not looking for the traditional 12 step platform. After leaving TK in May 2015 I have stayed clean, healthy and happy. TK was a wonderful place for me to start my recovery journey! The enviorment was very peaceful and nice. The staff walked through the doors everyday really wanting to help and they were extremely compassionate. I am so thankful for Timberline and everything that it did for me and my TK friends! I spent 2 months there last summer it wasn't easy but it was worth it. Being 15 it wasn't my choice to enter treatment but it was in my best interest to get help. If you are suffering from an eating disorder I think that they will do an excellent job. They are professional and the majority of the staff seem very qualified. We took our daughter here because they indicated they could effectively treat trauma and PTSD. Our daughter took great comfort in animals and the admissions staff indicated there was canines and equine therapy. I came to Timberline Knolls twice for treatment - summer 2012 and winter 2013 - after over 15 years of through treatment for eating disorders, self harm issues, mood disorders and trauma. I chose TK because of their ability to treat all of those issues. It wasn't an eating disorder unit that said they could treat self harm, or vice versa, or either of those models and not addressing the trauma from which those behaviors stemmed. Timberline Knolls, a residential facility in Lemont, Illinois is the best of the best. I entered treatment with a negative mindset, and in denial about my issues that I came there for. This all changed very quickly... I hated TK when I first got there, coming from out of state it was difficult for me to be away from my family. I was on Oak Lodge (the only adolescent lodge for ages 13-18). I found the Behavior Health Specialist staff, those who are always on the lodge helping out to be very helpful and insightful. I spent 8 weeks at TK and it was the best choice that I have ever made. It's tough and requires a lot of hard work. However, if you are willing to address the issues that you are dealing with, hope and recovery are possible. Even while I was a resident at TK I would hear other residents complain about the fact that they are very focused on eating disorders and substance abuse, rather than depression and anxiety. My daughter is currently a resident of Timberline Knols, in Lemont, IL. I've visted several times during her treatment and have noticed the unease of the office staff, in the main office (all except for one excellent professional) when they see a, "face of color." My sister and I have noticed the same kind of aloof interactions when we have had to ask a question of a few of the behavioral specialists.
