Cat's eye was swollen and we didn't want to risk waiting until the AM. Took her in at 8 PM and we were in and out in under 45 minutes including dying of the eye. Professional staff, short wait, transparent prices...if I ever need to take a pet to after-hours hospital I wont' think twice about where to go....Austin Vet Hospital is a winner.
So, I left my appointment today really irritated, but knowing that I'll still take my dog back. Why? because these folks are advocates for animals. That's their job. It's what they're suppose to do. But their bedside manner is overly critical, condescending and one that is based in WAY too much presumption versus inquiry and discussion. Today, we walked in to AVH, and she sat quietly next to me---shaking occasionally, but otherwise ok. When we went into the checkup room, she laid down and just chilled. When the vet and tech ... read more

When I moved to Austin, I knew I would need a top notch vet to take care of my sweet, aging, family doggie (he needs special care due to his seizures), so I came to Austin Vet Hospital and I'm glad I did! I have been going here for three years, and I have nothing but positive things to say. My dog seems to love this place. It's all tail wags and smiles through the whole appointment-- even when he's getting shots! We have seen Dr. Cao and Dr. Palvino multiple times and they are both great! They are very patient with my que... read more
Overall, this place is cool. Beautiful facility, really nice staff. The tech I saw was great and calm and was very sensitive to my dog's behavioral needs. However, when I called on the phone, they told me $50 for the appointment (my dog is a new patient). When I checked out, it was nearly $200! I mean, come on. Don't casually ask me, "while you're here, want to do a quick heartworm test?" without disclosing that will be $50 more. The tiny 10 minute exam turned out to be astronomical. Thank god I said no to the shots they w... read more
Business response:
Hi Jillian- Sorry that you weren't given an estimate before they took care of "Carver" . I know he needed an exam, eye diagnostics, eye medications and the heart worm test and all of that can add up! I know you weren't expecting the $160 bill. We want everyone to be on the same page when it comes to the costs. If you ask, our techs can get an estimate for anything. We can go over it with you line by line so you know what we are doing, why we are doing it and what its going to cost. We don't ever want anyone to feel surprise... read more
My 2 tiny pups and I have recently relocated to Austin a month ago. I am a new veterinary school grad and have not yet began a job as an associate veterinarian so when my dog began limping suddenly I had to find a vet here in town. I did a little research and this was the closest hospital near my house and I liked their website and the few reviews I read online. I was very pleased with my experience. The staff is very nice, knowledgable and the doctors are very kind and obviously know their stuff as well. I have been back se... read more
I recently moved so I had to change vets, but when I lived in North Austin, this is where I would take my cat to get checkups, if she had an problems, or if I needed my pets medication. They were always fantastic to deal with, very knowledgeable, and always professional and courteous. When I moved and had to change vets, they were more than willing to get my cats records to my new vet. I highly recommend this clinic.
This is one of the best places in town. We moved and don't go here anymore, but would if we still lived in the area. The staff are very caring. They even do followup calls after an appointment, to find out how your pet is doing. It's a nice touch. We had a difficult situation with an aggressive dog, who could be the sweetest thing if you were her friend. The staff here took the extra safety measures, never complained about her growling, worked with us to determine if it were chemical and treatable, and when we had to ... read more
This place is great. The staff truly care about the animals. My dog had horrible flea allergies and the vet called me the day after I brought him in to check on him. Dr. Palvino and his team are great. I would tell anyone to go here.
