I found Chelsea Eye on yelp, and based on the reviews I decided to have my Lasik eye surgery at Chelsea Eye. I am completely happy with the service, results, and follow up. The staff, and Dr. Coad, who performed my surgery, are all very friendly and knowledgeable. I appreciate their good work and will recommend everyone I know to them. Thank you Tiffany H. for your response. I actually *do* think a lot of the problem was expectation management. I did research before picking Chelsea Eye, and I picked you over another slightly cheaper place because I had already done LASIK and was so happy. Based on what I had read in forums I suspected it generally takes at least 12 treatments even though business websites claim 6 is enough. I went here to get my eyes checked and for a new prescription for contacts. It was easy to get an appointment and the optometrist was nice and seemed competent. But the prescription I got was only to order contacts through their website which I found to be annoying.
I've gone 4 times. Not a long wait. Nice doctors. Easy access to subway. Easy to get an appt. Saturday am appts too. Have never had insurance problems (sounds like your insurance was the problem- and you should always talk to them too- theyre the insurance gurus since they deal with them all the time). I have a PPO and paid zilch each time.
Run do not walk away from this bogus eye doctor. Didn't diagnose my husbands eye which was cancer.
Our friend went in for an eye exam. She doesn't speak English well and is on Medicaid-subsidized insurance. They charged her a co-pay with her insurance company. But they refused to provide her the results of the exam without an additional $75. I spoke to them and their story made no sense whatsoever. They would immediately provide the results by email for $75 but -- due to HIPPA -- would require 3 weeks and a pile of paperwork to provide everything but the actual prescription. Would not recommend going here. Costly exam for a very minor problem. I had a small particle in my eye and just needed an office visit. All the optometrist had to do was flip my eyelid inside out to remove the particle with a Q-tip. I insisted that I did not need any photography or additional scans. They said I had to do them to see the doctor, but that everything would be included in the exam cost and that I would not be billed extra. This was not the case. My experience was pretty standard. The staff were alright, nothing special, but they got the job done. The doctor seemed knowledgeable enough, though a bit rushed. Overall, an okay visit, but I wasn't blown away, you know? Just average, I guess."
