As many have noted above, there's an outrageous $75 out-of-pocket fee for a Rx basd on 'refraction test.' This test is provided free most everywhere and I've not found another example of this preposterous fee with any other reputable opthalmalogist in NYC. Add to that long wait times and the high turnover of doctors resulting in my never seeing the same doctor twice for my annual visits, makes this a place to avoid. I regret sticking it out for as long as I did. Shame on them.
Business response:
Dear Bruce S, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and experience with us. As you know from your previous visits, we are a specialty office, so our exams are a little more in-depth than an everyday "eye" practice. A refraction is the part of an eye exam when the doctor flips various lenses inside the phoropter and asks which is better. Your doctor uses your responses in order to write an accurate and current prescription for your eyeglasses. The refraction component of your eye exam is not considered medical... read more
While I had a great experience with Dr Coad almost 8 years ago with my lasik procedure, I am switching offices now due to the front desk and billing practices. Despite having an annual eye exam and then requesting my rx be sent to me (bc I now require computer glasses), a week went by and I heard nothing. I had to call back and was told the Issue was I needed to pay a $75 fee to get my prescription. Just so they would hand over my rx. The fact no one cared enough to reach out to me to tell me this and that they are withholdi... read more
Wasted time! Dr. Mancuso did not even check my eye. I just recounted why I went there (twitching eyes) and went there for a second opinion. She just recommended me to go to another eye doctor in their facility. They should have told me this on the phone when I asked if my condition is something that Dr. Mancuso could look at. They said yes. But apparently not! I was in the office for 2 minutes for nothing and had to pay for no professional advice.
This place is a ripoff that rushes you out for turnover profit sake. They accepted my insurance, gave me an eye exam, wrote out a prescription. Then they told me I have to pay $75 to have them print out my prescription (they called it a refraction?), and charged me a $20 copay. Needless to say, go somewhere else to have your eye exam. Funny thing is, I told them on the phone that the intention of my visit was to get an updated prescription and specifically asked them if they accept my insurance. They accepted my insurance, ... read more
Last year my exam was $25 - my copay. This year I'm greeted at the door with a form saying the charge is $75 for refraction - when they ask you 1 or 2 - and it's too late to walk out because they charge a fee if you cancel in under 24 hours so I sign and complain. Instead of the optometrist doing the exam - like every other year - it's an assistant. Why am I paying more? To add insult to injury when I checked out it was $115 because that $75 was in addition to my now $45 copay! If they're going to charge patients for the ne... read more
Even though Dr. Code is phenomenal, I give a low rating because it's impossible to get past the receptionist ( whose ENGLISH in NON-EXISTING), who does her best to shoo you off and is less than cooperative !! Not acceptable
Waited 55 mins for my 9:30am appointment. They couldn't be that backed up so early. Staff was friendly but that doesn't give me my hour back. I have to be at work too!
Just recently had an appointment here and I agree with the other negative reviews. It is not only a money factory but they insult your intelligence at the same time. The attitude seems to be that they are doing you a tremendous favor by being available and they expect you to wait cheerfully until they are good and ready to "service" you. My appointment was a complete waste of time. And I believe my time is worth as much to me and theirs is to them. I lost 1 1/4 hours waiting for a "free" 2 minute evaluation by Natasha. I fe... read more
Dr. Eviatar is above all a salesman. My face was a canvas used to deposit fillers I did not know I wanted or needed. I paid for my compliance economically (8K) but worse I have been trying to fix my inflated and lopsided face for the past 8 months.
Chelsea Eye Ophthalmology has a 4.2 star rating with 629 reviews.
