This was a frustrating, disappointing, first (and last) visit. My optometrist referred me to Dr. Coad because I have some kind of issue with my eye lid. I waited 2 1/2 weeks for an appointment, which was today at 1:30. Beforehand they had me do all the forms re. medical history, contact info, etc. Great, I thought, very efficient. I got there, checked in, and someone did some vision tests on me even though I was clear that I was there for an eyelid issue. OK, he was nice enough. When he was done he told me "now we have to wa... read more
** AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE ** My usual eye doctor is in Long Island, so I thought I'd try some place close by in the city. My appointment was at the end of June. A total mistake. What a nightmare! Despite the space being very pretty, just about everyone in this office is rude, rude, rude and acts like they are annoyed to be there and annoyed to be dealing with you, annoyed that you're even standing there. One receptionist was mildly cordial, the other seemed completely peeved when I asked her to write their fax number for me aft... read more
Business response:
Dear Lisa, Thank you for taking the time out to give us your feedback. Your experience appears atypical. Our staff is caring and helpful. We wish you the best and are happy that we were able to resolve your issues. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Stay away! I hoped I found a great eye doctor, but in fact they are just scammers. First clues to poor service, their computer to check in is placed next to a window with so much glare you cannot see the screen, and they are ophthalmologists? Second clue, when I walked into the restroom it looked like a 14 year old boy had just finished using it, it was dirty. Third clue, when I finally finished the exam the person in a white coat said the doctor wasn't on location, they'd send my results to me after he reviewed. She was the... read more

If I could choose "0", I would do that. Surprise bills. Twice. Update re reply under this review: Surprise bill 1: I received bill 15 months after my visit, even though I have emails requesting the clinic to send me a bill if I owed anything. Surprise bill 2: Representative of the clinic assured me that ROUTINE eye exam was covered by my insurance. It turned out that routine eye exam was not covered, even after deductible is met.
Business response:
We are sorry to hear you feel this way Irina.. The statement you received represented the in-network deductible amount due per your insurance company for your medical exam. Unfortunately, insurance plans and benefits can be very confusing. Your insurance company should have provided you a statement or an Explanation of Benefits through the mail. In case they have not, we also provided you with the Explanation of Benefits and an itemized breakdown of your visit validating the balance. Please feel free to reach back out to us ... read more

As many have noted above, there's an outrageous $75 out-of-pocket fee for a Rx basd on 'refraction test.' This test is provided free most everywhere and I've not found another example of this preposterous fee with any other reputable opthalmalogist in NYC. Add to that long wait times and the high turnover of doctors resulting in my never seeing the same doctor twice for my annual visits, makes this a place to avoid. I regret sticking it out for as long as I did. Shame on them.
Business response:
Dear Bruce S, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and experience with us. As you know from your previous visits, we are a specialty office, so our exams are a little more in-depth than an everyday "eye" practice. A refraction is the part of an eye exam when the doctor flips various lenses inside the phoropter and asks which is better. Your doctor uses your responses in order to write an accurate and current prescription for your eyeglasses. The refraction component of your eye exam is not considered medical... read more
While I had a great experience with Dr Coad almost 8 years ago with my lasik procedure, I am switching offices now due to the front desk and billing practices. Despite having an annual eye exam and then requesting my rx be sent to me (bc I now require computer glasses), a week went by and I heard nothing. I had to call back and was told the Issue was I needed to pay a $75 fee to get my prescription. Just so they would hand over my rx. The fact no one cared enough to reach out to me to tell me this and that they are withholdi... read more
Wasted time! Dr. Mancuso did not even check my eye. I just recounted why I went there (twitching eyes) and went there for a second opinion. She just recommended me to go to another eye doctor in their facility. They should have told me this on the phone when I asked if my condition is something that Dr. Mancuso could look at. They said yes. But apparently not! I was in the office for 2 minutes for nothing and had to pay for no professional advice.
