I came here for a consult for ICL surgery. I felt conned into spending $350 for the consult, as the front desk left me a voice-mail telling me the cost 10 minutes before closing the day before my appointment. I was interupted mid question and rushed during the consult by Dr Coad, after spending $350 to see him. For reference, the very same consult at another very reputable facility was $60, and they spend much more time with me. I was initially willing to overlook those things because Coad does have a good reputation and the... read more

Chelsea Eye Ophthalmology charged me twice, and called taking a photo of my eye with an ipad an extra (and hidden/expensive) fee a "diganosis". While with Dr. Sherry Liu she asked me if I wore glasses, after walking into her office wearing glasses. After spending so much at this office for no answers or diagnosis, I needed a second opinion from a knowledgeable doctor. I would never go back here. What a scam.

Beware of up-charges for services you did not ask for along with an unsatisfactory diagnosis. I needed a second opinion after my appointment. The doctor asked if I wore glasses after filling out 30 minutes worth of forms, talking and describing my routine and WALKING in the office with glasses on my face. Also was in pain and had to ASK for drops while she looked at me and basically tells me to sleep it off, you know after $300 worth of tests. Don't let the lobby space fool you. Avoid at all costs unless you want to lose all... read more

I desperately needed an eye doctor on a Saturday. I called and luckily they were seeing new patients walk ins on a Saturday- miracle I thought. They took my out-of-pocket, uninsured payment. I waited for ages on the couch, got tested in one room, couch again, another room more machines tests, couch again, up and down up and down. Finally got to see a technician, not an opthamologist not an MD not a real eye doctor. She tried calling one of the two real doctors affiliated with the practice but neither answered. They took my m... read more

Five years later and my vision started to deteriorate three years later. So although I can still see far better than I could before lasiks, I am now back to wearing glasses. I guess I would have still done it but I would not have done different powers in my eyes so that I did not need reading glasses, it has made it far more difficult to correct my vision for either reading or distance. Its true, it does NOT last forever!

My experience with this office wasn't pleasant even though the doctor was very nice at first. She saw me for about 5 minutes and prescribed the drug that no pharmacies has. I had to come back and ask for replacement. Front desk was telling me that she is with other client and I have to wait. Mean while, he never went to check and see if the doctor was busy or not. It turned out that she wasn't busy with anyone because I went to her office my self after 40 minutes of wait. The total time I spent there was two hours between wa... read more

I called Dr. Coad's office to schedule a consultation for LASIK. I had gone to another eye surgeon and felt a second opinion was important. I went to my appointment and asked cost of the appointment, and the receptionist could not advise. I figured $200 at most. I waited 30 minutes. Met one technician, waited 30 again then did other tests, waited and didn't speak with Dr. Coad until 6:05 PM. I arrived at 4. I'm a patient person but was certainly displeased at the ridiculously long waits. Then when the $426 bill arrived I was... read more

Business response:

Dear Kathy, We appreciate and understand that insurance can be confusing, especially with "vision" and "medical" plans, and even more when non-covered services such as laser vision correction or advanced technology lens implant surgery is considered. We strive to be transparent in what we do and what our fees are. We are sorry that your entire exam and diagnostics were applied to your deductible. The cost of the appointment is not a factor that can be determined by our front desk. This is a billing and contractual issue th... read more

Lasik, Dr. Coad, Elizabeth (who no longer works here): A+. Never made a better decision in my life. Can see perfectly. Consultation clear and not pushy. Elizabeth was a star and I'm sorry she's no longer working here. EVERYTHING ELSE -- Billing, cleanliness of the actual practice (not the surgery), scheduling, follow-up: D-. What a saga. Want to pay hundreds for an eye infection? Come to this practice! Would rather save your cash for some other method of suffering? Read below to live vicariously through my wonderful experien... read more

I am a long-term client and am seriously thinking of leaving. 1) They charge a $75 fee for the refraction test if you want a prescription for your glasses. Insurance companies usually will not reimburse for the refraction test. Why? Because it is not medically necessary. They can do this using a phoropter. As I have been going there for nearly 30 years, they know what my baseline is and what my last prescription was. The $75 they charge is just to off-set the low insurance reimbursements, which quite frankly, they agreed to.... read more
