On Friday, Feb 6 at approximately 3:30 PM I visited Extra Space Storage at 581 Austin Pl, Bronx, NY to rent a unit after seeing a lower price online. When I asked the on-site manager for clarification about the online price, she responded by shouting, insulting me, and refusing to rent to me at the online rate. She also threatened to call the police and ordered me to leave. I was calm and only asking questions; the beha left me in tears . I never experienced this in my life
DO NOT RENT WITH THIS COMPANY. They are a predatory vendor. I had a storage locker for three months and then my fourth month bill arrived which was DOUBLE what I was paying. They lie and say my original rate was a promo-rate and it is month to month. I would expect a 10%, 20% increase, but double?? Run from this company!!!

The space and service are fine (LIC). But they are a predatory business. In one year my monthly fee has gone up by almost 70% from $185 to $315. When I started in this space it was not owned by ESS, but once they acquired it, the price increases kept coming. I am really aggravated by the price gouging. I would advise anyone looking for storage for more than a few months to go elsewhere.
I made a reservation and they cancelled it without talking to me. THen I talked to 6 people, my unit was NOT available. I missed my flight to Los Angeles. Horrible company. In the last 6 or 7 months my rent has been raised by $150. First a 35% increase on a $250 unit. Then I moved to a lower priced unit and a 40% increased was levied after one month. I was not notified in either instance. Needless to say I am in the process of moving. I had a clearance giveaway and several of the people stopped by the office because they didn't read the details of the address. Beware they will increase more than 100% within a few months. Bad business practices.
I'm bummed that I didn't read reviews before storing here. They only allow month to month leases, randomingly increase rent for no discernable reason, and their units are NOT climate controlled. Will lower your increased rent (by a little) only if you call and complain. Will never rent with them again. 1110 Route 36, Hazlet, NJ, is the location I'm at.
Do NOT Rent from this company. I found Roaches in my bookbag soon after I rented. They Raised my rate in 9 mos $11 more, told me they can raise it Anytime they wanted too. Buyer BeWare!
Just came from the one in Newark NJ and they stole my deceased husband's shoes!!! I have to go and see what else is missing. I'm going back there to file an insurance claim.
