I have never had a more stressful experience working with a storage company than with Extra Space Storage. They come on very friendly but overall have sneaky borderline predatory practices for extorting money. The first month of using the service I was mischarged for insurance that I declined when I first rented. I had to call for days on end to get it fixed. they overcharge under deliver they don't care raise prices whenever their scam is if you pay in advance you keep that rate only because they lost billions from buying life storage and now trying to get money back charge extra fees and have no customer service to help with real issues go to Public storage they work with you

Extra space from the start of 2022 lied to me, said pricing for a small closet storage was $45 a month. It has quickly gone up to $103 for just sitting there. I have just moved out and left a few boxes for the trash, wow, my mistake, they sent me a text message stating until I remove these trash boxes, I will continue to be charged monthly. Everyone is correct. This seems to be bait and switch. I switched from another unit because I though even with a few increases it would be cheaper. WRONG My rate has increased every month since I have been there with no advanced notice. I have started looking for better option. Renter of Storage space here, be-forewarned.

please people do not use Extra Space storage facility on Sussex ave Newark,NJ .. There units are damaged and not safe for your belongings.. I spoke with Tatiana in corporate office who was very rude and was not willing to assist, when i told her i wanted to file a complaint with someone higher up she hung up on me!!

Verified customer: I'm not saying that my experience will be your experience but if I were you, I would consider all of your "storage company" options before you make a decision in storing your precious personal items at an Extra Space Storage. I had my items taken by employees. My experience is exactly like some of the other reviewers. Rented at one rate and within 2 months I get a notice that my rate is going up. I wish I would have read these Yelp reviews before renting the unit. I will be moving my stuff out asap. I have no idea if what this company is doing is legal or not but it is certainly unethical. Please stay away from this company.

Extra Space Storage is a scam - after a few months of renting, they jacked up my price from $256 to $336!!! The notice was hidden inside a random change of address form I almost threw out as junk mail. The storage unit is a dirty, shabby, flimsy tin space with spiders and insulation hanging from the ceiling. No climate control - like storing outdoors. No lighting or electricity access.
