Stopped reading ink cartridges. Support just tells me to buy more even though I just put in brand new ones.
If I could give a zero I would The print quality is terrible. The return window is 30 days and when you call tech support (after an hour on hold) they tell you you need new ink cartridges because those are bad, then once you order them and try again, find 2 hours in your schedule to call tech support back the 30 days is up and then they refuse to help. It’s crazy!!
Beware, you get what you pay for... If you print infrequently, say once every two or three weeks. The print cartridges WILL dry out on you. Suffer that and a poor print quality compounds the dissatisfaction we've experienced. It's back to Epson for me!
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY Less than 1 year old and now the print heads won’t line up and the margins changed on their own. Hard to use the scan and copy mode. Please don’t waste your money on this printer. I’m not even interested in the warranty. It’s going straight to the dump where it belongs

Don't buy this model Very little to like, other than I'm a fan of Brother printers (with the exception of this model) I had a Brother MFC-490CW for many years and it was wonderful. The MFC J491 is very poorly designed -- havn't yet learned how to scan -- must press selector keys on the key board multiple times to get it to print (must select paper, print quality, paper size, copy, etc. over and over again to get it to copy. -- when it does print, black and white copy is too dark (looks dingy) -- Power shuts off too soon and ... read more
Plug and play basically for someone that is not tech savvy Having to send email via the existing software
Feels like a scam I was suspicious so I took note of how many times we printed. After 5 to 7 return labels printed over the course of like 3 months - surprise! Time to install new ink. This think also runs out of color ink even though we only print in black and white. Surprise as well that you can’t print black and white without replacing the color ink cartridges. I’ve spent way too much money on ink in the past 2 years. I give up. Also there is no touchscreen like the review prompts asked me to review. I don’t get it.
Terrible and unreliable print quality This printer has been a huge disappointment. Print quality is always bad. I constantly have to run cleaning cycles, which consume most of the ink in the cartridges. Plus it only marginally improves the print quality. Test prints still show defects. Then there's the mysterious disappearing-ink-phenomenon. I installed brand new cartridges a few months ago. Printed maybe 10-15 B&W pages since then.
