    Poor software, really Pro; Easy ink replacement, double sided printing Con; Difficult to use software, awkward user features, slow printing I used to have an Epson, there was an icon on the desktop for single click scanning. this software is awkward, nearly nonfunctional and requires many clicks. I can do it, but that makes it hard for the rest of the family and the infrequent users.

    Nix to generic compatible ink cartridges Made the fatal mistake of allowing Brother to install a firmware update on the printer, with the result that my 3rd party printer ink cartridges are no longer recognized. Stuck with a printer that won't printer, and $50 of now useless ink cartridges. Tossed them all in the trash. My 5th and final Brother printer.

    Not the best It was slow and not very user friendly. Even some times paper was jamming.

    beware of generic carts Works OK but won't accept generic compatible ink carts. I've tried 4 different brands of generics and none fit, I refuse to pay for OEM. I now have a door stop.

    Printer I am having a problem with it printing good all the time

    Not the Brother Printer I used to know I have had 3 Brother printers in the past 14 years. I read no reviews when the last one needed replacement. When the MFC-497 was again available, I jumped on it. Bad decision. The printing is quite light and somewhat fuzzy. That was OK for me. My problem is that with less than a 100 sheet pack of paper used I have had 7 paper jam warnings. With 6 of the warnings there was no paper jam....still have to go through all the directions to clear a non-existent paper jam. Today, however I had ... read more

    Utter garbage. It's garbage. Printed probably 5 pages over a few months before a permanent paper jam that won't go away.

    Never Worked Opened a couple of months later after purchase and it didnt work. Horrible product.
