Great printer! Easy set up for both PC and Mac. Had HP's for years and got sick of constant problems and malfunctions and overpriced tiny ink tanks. Loving it so far, works better than expected. Smaller than old HP6600 and quieter too. I could have gotten another HP for less money than this costs but I know I would have had to shell out more money for ink tanks shortly after installing, since they only come with initial tanks which don't last long at all.
Limited lifespan Printer works very well but after less than 2 yrs of use it must be serviced by Av brother technician. Basically it’s easier to buy a new one and junk the old - really flawed design feature.
Impossible to connect to a home network via router using wireless or wire I am throwing away my MFC-J985DW today after owning at least a year. I am just very tired of having to reset all the network devices every few days whether I am using wireless to connect to the router or a wired connection. This process requires removing all cables, powering off all devices in the network, removing the driver software with the Brother removal software, going through the reinstall process using the full driver and management Brother sof... read more
I do not recommend this printer. Basically, I bought this because I was tired of spending a lot on ink. That being said, I do not print often, but when I do need to print something, I need to do it now. Most of the time when I would need to print, the print head would be clogged. Cleaning the print head only resolved the print issues for a short period of time, and it was a 50/50 chance the next print wouldn't work. This printer was a waste of money, I should have just kept throwing ink at the HP it replaced. Live and learn.
Flimsy Made in China. Need I say more? Avoid. Everything about this says "cheep." The paper extender (which is *supposed* to pull out to keep paper from flying out all over the floor) broke and can't be replaced. Oh well, I guess I don't mind 50 pages spat out all over the floor.....seriously? You call this engineering? Made in China. Avoid.
Defective Printer Very disappointed in this printer. I've gotten 3 different printers and each one that I've gotten is worse. The first printer jammed and could not do 2-sided copies. The second printer has a streak in the color ink. The third printer has two streaks.
Disappointed... Chose this printer for 2 reasons. The amount of pages printed per cartridge and price. Had the printer for 1 week, worked great then got a "clear paper jam" message. Followed printer instructions and tech support over the phone, no luck. Brother stated they would send me a new one and should receive it in 3-5 days. I am now on the 7th day waiting for replacement. First Brother product and I am disappointed. The "support" people over the phone are just as bad as the printer.
it's been a headache I replaced my old dell laser printer with this Brother inkjet. Not happy. The quality of every sort of picture and graphic has gone way down from my laser printer. I bought this mainly to save money on ink, but not only has the quality of prints gone down, I've had to replace the 'high capacity' brother ink in it already, and I only print 2-3 pages per week. Now it won't let me print in black and white without changing (again) the cyan ink. Not a good purchase for me.
Lasted only 18 months. Deplorable software, hardware flimsy and badly made This pathetic excuse for a printer/scanner lasted only 18 months. Not only they charge you an arm and a leg for ink, but also trying to make money by selling you essentially disposable hardware. It started falling apart very quickly: the scanner cover, the paper tray, anything that moves. The software provided for printing/scanner setup is made like a weekend project by beginner programmers: a few disjoint programs with overlapping functions. Lesson l... read more
