After a few disappointing experiences with other recently opened Saint Paul restaurant in this price range it was a great relief to find a restaurant that performed as expected. Erin was a great host and the food was exceptional.
But relieved to see that pricing was reasonable. Service excellent. very cool ambiance. Great bar/lounge.
The Commodore is a fun place with a roaring 20's atmosphere. The specialty cocktail list matches that theme: I tried the "SideCar", which was really good; my wife raved about the "Commodore". In fact, everything was really good: fried risotto appetizer, pork scallopini entree and apple upside down cake for desert. The extensive beer list is also a plus! Also the service was very good. We'll definitely be coming back again. The only downside is that it's very popular, so you have to reserve several weeks ahead of time.
Loved the restaurant's bar and style. Waiter was a little overly attentive until dessert course when he completely disappeared. After about 15 minutes manager apologized for waiter's absence and compted dessert for out table of 4...nice gesture! The salmon, rabbit and veggie dish were very good. The sole was way over cooked and a big disappointment.
We arrived early so decided to eat in the lounge rather than wait for our table to be vacated. The ambiance is wonderful. It is like stepping back in time. We shared a starter of bread with a fig topping. Excellent! Our entrees were the sole and the pork scaloppine. Both portions were nicely done and the flavor exceptional. The only exception to giving this restaurant an A+ is the noise level in the lounge. To be fair, we have eaten in the restaurant previously and the noise level there is not a problem.
This place is so cool. It's like Marvel Bar and Nye's had a baby.
I heard about The Commodore from a friend who had her wedding reception there years ago. I was excited to see that they were NEW on during Restaurant Week. I had no idea what to expect but the photos online made it look amazing. I was expecting like Great Gatsby ambiance. You walk in and the 2 bars you walk through are great!! But the actual dining area I found to be underwhelming. I heard that they tried to remodel the dining area after the original but the black and white was not the rich vibrant feel I was hoping for. Bar was fantastic. Toasts, rabbit, gratin and mahi mahi all excellent. Brown butter cake was not good: it looked and tasted like a packaged little Debbie or hostess cake; coffee tasted like airplane coffee. Cocktails were perfectly made. Excellent service and manager Anthony Davis very friendly.
The bar scene is wonderful and it's a great place to have a cocktail or glass of wine and share some food in the bar, which is three rooms, and over half the entire place. The dining room is also a nice room, but lacks the spark of the rest of the place. The menu is good, not great. The salmon and rabbit were delicious.
