Great food and perfect service.
I went with a group for dinner and the Commodore impressed us all! The ambiance was perfect and we could easily carry on a conversation even though the restaurant was full and busy. The food was exceptional and I actually heard one in our party say that was possibly the best dinner she ever had (she had the sole). The cocktails, even the alcohol free choices, were delicious. The Commodore would be a great place to go for group events, date nights and any special occasion, although I don't think it would be somewhere I'd brin... read more
Took my father, mother and girlfriend here for my father's 70th birthday and it could not have gone better. Our waiter was excellent, the food was literally perfect. Historic setting that you just cannot replicate. We finished eating and had a few more drinks and chatted, and we were never rushed to leave. When existing we met the manager Andrew (?) and he showed us the historic bar. I felt for the level of service, quality of food and amazing atmosphere that the prices were an excellent value. My gal and I will return for l... read more
The beautifully restored bar, designed to look like a cruise ship bar, is like eye candy. You can dress up in 20s or30s garb and let loose if you want to - you can't say that about too many places. The variety of wines and liquors is dizzying - and also varies widely in price so you can spend lavishly or prudently. The menu is not too big but all is very tasty and quite affordable, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Love it.
I can't recommend The Commodore highly enough; the braised rib eye is the best I've ever had. The service is charmed, and the place breeds happiness.
The 1/2 chicken was too salty but otherwise rather bland - did not live up to the description. Appetizers and soup were actually excellent. Souffle was only OK. Overall, meal was very enjoyable.
Great food, drinks, ambiance, and service. Only downside was the noise level in the dining room that made it hard to carry on a conversation. Would still be going back!
Festive ambiance and a good time. Both the salmon and sole entrees are to die for. The salad course - we tried the butter lettuces, waldorf and cauliflower. Super meh. We loved the relish tray with the pickles veggies, nuts, etc. Wanted to book a table for 8 for a future date and was told no but that we could get there at 4 to hold a table at the bar - um, no. wth? Also, we booked a table for 8:15 and didn't get seated till 9. I understand it's not a perfect science, but 45 minutes is about 30 too many.
I treated two friends to dinner, using a generous Christmas gift card. Each friend ordered the salmon and I ordered the sole. My friends enjoyed the salmon, though didn't seem impressed, and my sole was passable, but not memorable in any way. The host did stop at the table to be sure I knew how to add a bit of burnt butter to the sole...that was a bit annoying, though he was just doing his job. Dave, our wait staff, was pleasant, funny, and attentive; I over-tipped for his levity alone. Mixed drinks were good; in fact, if I ... read more
