As with some fitness centers, here you will have two great moments: 1. The day that you sign up. 2. The day that after months of following up, they stop billing your credit card, despite cancelling the membership. Although the place is very nice, there are many issues with the staff. I've been a customer here for two years and figured the Edge deserved my review. Two stars: it's a decent sized space (I think it used to be a Linen and Things or a Bed Bath and Beyond) but is packed Monday-Thursday any time after 4pm. And I mean packed- you will lose your weights if you put them down and the trainers will kick you out of a space if they're with a client (both of these things happen to me on a regular basis). We have policies outlined on the wall stating that athletic footwear must be worn at all times. Scam membership. The 19.99 is a scam because the credit card shows 24.95 plus a random 49.99 charge every few months. Overcrowded and not enough weight equipment. The prepaid annual fee of $299 is a scam because they tell you that you get 2 free months but after 12 months you have to pay or you loose the 2 free months. I reality, your paying every 12 months anyway.
Buyer beware!!! I was a member for six years no problem until I tried to cancel but multiple calls email and sending mail they would not stop my account. They continued to charge me for six months. It is now pay hundreds of dollars for a canceled membership that was never used or deal with the bad credit.
It's a fine gym, although I rate only the Zumba classes highly - I was not bothered with any of the other offerings - but they DO make it hard to break your contract. Moving out of the area, I gave the 30 day written notice that I want to break the contract, but the Edge would not accept the notice without some form of proof of new residency. Of course, you don't have proof of new residency until you're actually IN your new place, at which point you now have to pay for a month's contract at a gym that you can't use. It feels... read more
I have been a member of this club for roughly 4 months. I had just moved to the area and walked in on a whim one day to see what it was about. While walking through I noticed a lot of awesome things that caught my eye. Pros -The gym is huge and has everything you would want, bumper plates and Olympic weight setups, dumbbells that go past 100, multiple squat racks, tons of machines, a turf, etc. It looks like a gym goers dream. The "$1 To Join" and the $19.99 monthly rate are very attractive. And so, when you select the "Join Now" button to sign up, you're blindsided by a "Processing Fee" of $17.50, a yearly "Enhancement Fee" of $49.99, and you'd better read the Terms and Conditions and especially the Notes! The Notes section informs you your monthly rate will increase to $24.99 per month after 12 months. I'm an international exchange student lives in Fairfield. I came to Edge fitness club last august because i simply wanted a place to work out and they have a relatively cheap price. I remembered i asked for a only 3 month membership when one of their staff is helping me register as a new member. Fradulant charges continue! I spoke with the manager of the manchester club a few weeks ago and he ASSURED me the charges for personal training would be stopped after the LAST charge we questioned - the paperwork is extremely misleading - it says you are signing up for four training sessions, which we approved of, but it is very vague and suddenly we found out it is a recurring monthly charge!! another $257 was just charged to my account this morning even after I agreed with the manager LAST month that I would NOT fight t... read more
