I rented in advance online and had a really positive experience - I had pre-paid so was aware the rental company was outside the airport- a 5 minute shuttle ride away (at the taxi rank) - conveniently the location was next to Costco so it was ideal when it came to refilling my car with gas prior to returning it. RENTERS BEWARE! I will never rent here again. You will be asked to upgrade because the size you reserved are all damaged. Since you have not been offered a choice, you have to sign a waiver (after 15 hours on planes and time changes) you get a vehicle they do have. They can't fix the charges because your ticket is "closed"; funny, I work with ticket systems as a network analyst and, you can fix whatever to help your customer. Our recent car rental experience with Ace in Maui was a tale of two extremes—frustrating upon pickup and surprisingly smooth upon return. NEVER AGAIN!!! We waited an hour and a half for the shuttle van to pick us up and it never showed. We paid $30 for a taxi to get there to pick up our rental. We were the ONLY people in the office. I told the guy behind the counter that the van never showed and we waited 1 1/2 hours. He could care LESS. Then he brought up our reservation and told us we reserved a van not a compact car. They charged us an unexpected Renters Liability Waiver fee of $30 per day, which amounted to almost half the cost of our rental. We have rented cars on two other Hawaiian islands and were never charged this fee. With this fee included, our rental ended up being more expensive than any other car rental agency. Judging from other customer reviews, it seems the company is aware of this issue but does not make the fee sufficiently clear upfront on purpose.
