Complaint
Misrepresentation by technician of need for replacement of both A/C air handler and outside condenser by lying re mold in handler and regular A/C sub.
Amtek called promoting Spring tuneups which were slightly less ($98.00 for both 1st and 2nd floor units) than Honest Air who we've been using for several years. List of items checked sounded impressive so we made appt. Technician "*****" (nickname the ********* came 5/15/14 and started w/upstairs Air Handler. Soon heard "we have a problem here" from James thru attic access cover. "Unit is covered in mold which is most likely being blown thru duct-work throughout the house and will need replaced and recommend microbial disinfect of ducts," says *****. Climbing ladder, I'm shown the black stuff which ***** has accumulated between thumb and forefinger (no gloves). B/C of new freon and permitting requirements, whole system, including outside condenser, needs replaced. Conveniently, ***** is also qualified to give estimates and quotes replacement cost of $4,950. Am also told by ***** that Honest Air is referred to as "Dishonest Air" in the industry b/c they are currently in bankruptcy and owe suppliers between 1-5 million dollars. Based on urgent "health" issues from mold, agree to do replacement upon which ***** pressures to be done following day, Friday, 5/16/14. This raises a red flag and we say that's too soon to accommodate. Monday was then argued and we said Mondays not a good day so Tuesday was agreed upon. Red flag causes me to rethink over weekend and Monday we call Honest Air and ***** informs me, no, they are not going bankrupt and, in fact, are hiring more help. BBB confirms this for me and even calls Bankruptcy Court in WPB to make sure nothing being processed. We then call Honest Air back and schedule an inspection of "moldy" air handler. Turns out to be black dirt and just needs blower assembly taken out and cleaned. Schedule this to be done (for $135 and n/c for the inspection)and then call Amtek to cancel A/C replacement and demand a refund of the $495 deposit given "the ****** on Thursday. The actual amount refund owed me by Amtek would be $301 ($495 less $49 for one tuneup less $145 for capacitor installed on 1st floor outside A/C condenser). Upstairs unit was NOT tuned b/c being replaced so only one A/C unit was tuned (1/2 of $98 being $49). Amtek tried to shuffle me around several departments but finally got my point across to Service Mgr who agreed to the refund and to make it up to me with a free tuneup and discounted service "contract" for future service work. Good grief. . .told them to stick it!! Still not in receipt of $301 refund owed by Amtek after waiting over a month since approx May 25-26. ***** *****, 7 ****** ****** XXXXX. (XXX-XXX-XXXX)(XXX-XXX-XXXX).
Desired Settlement
Refund of $301.00 unused deposit of $495.00 and never to be called about A/C tuneups ever again.
Business Response

Consumer Response
As of today, Sunday, 3 Aug, we've not received a check for $301.00 from Amtek in satisfaction of this dispute. Not a peep.
