I saw Dr Ferkel because I tore my meniscus while playing tennis in Hawaii. I had heard that you should just let it heal but after I tried pt and it didn’t get better he suggested surgery. He repaired my meniscus on the outside of the knee and the inside and then removed some arthritis in the middle. I was pretty sore to start and I doubted I made the right choice to have surgery but after three months I’m back playing tennis and I feel no pain at all. I am Very grateful to Dr Ferkel. He was kind and caring and did a grea... read more
I had a broken metatarsal. Ferkel came highly recommended, but he's past his prime now and into his 70s. I was told that he's working 6 days a week, long hours each day, in two clinics apparently. I learned this too late. He assured me that I'd be running in no time. After the surgery to fix the bone break, I was in a heavy cast for weeks. After, that, two more casts, followed by a boot. His negligent, bored cast room staff assured me that the ugly swelling and redness which started in my foot, and over the course of the ca... read more
Went to see Dr Ferkel for feet pain, he conducted x-rays of my knees and feet, saw they were worn and painful with prior miniscus tear. After the exam he sticks his thumb into my miniscus knee joint that sent me realing with pain and then has the gall to ask me if that hurt, real piece a work this guy is, likes to inflict pain on people. Filed a complaint with the AMA with his license review. Avoid this doctor like the plague.
I broke the medial dome of my talus off. Instead of doing what needed to be done which was taking care of the lesion that developed, Dr. Ferkel kept going in and just cleaning out the bone spurs that were developing because of the avascular necrosis. He never told me I had avascular necrosis. I found an ankle specialist in Burbank who did an osteotemy and clean the whole joint out and took bone from my fibula, re-established blood flow, cleaned out the lesion, and plugged it with the graft. Finally some relief from the pain... read more
As someone who enjoys hiking, I owe Dr Ferkel a lot. Several years ago, I was hiking on a familiar trail near Joshua Tree National Park after it had rained 3 days in a row. A sink hole opened up under my foot, causing a bad fall. Because I played sports throughout high school and college, I thought I had a bad sprain and elevated my foot for several days and iced it. I proceeded to go on a planned trip back to see my family on the east coast where the pain got worse. I was placed in a temporary boot and advised to see a Dr w... read more
