We drove 2.5 hours from Nashville to hit track #11 on our bucket list on closing day. This race track is old school! It was packed, we were lucky we got there early because parking was insane. We bought seat 1 and 2 in the SKY box Theater in the first row, but somehow it wasn't actually the first row, and there were still 2 rows in front of us. Ellis Park opened in 1922. While it's a small racetrack, by the Friday crowd, it appears to be very popular for the community of Henderson. It needs serious renovation, which I was told is forthcoming. In the meantime, it's just plain ol' racing. My friend has a share in a horse that was running, so we drove nearly 3 hours for a day at the track. Call the Brink's truck! We spent the day with friends at the race track and what a fun Sunday it was at Ellis Park! Ellis Park was our home track before we moved to Louisville and fell under the magical spell of Churchill Downs! We went back today to watch one of our horses run and it seems that nothing has changed. Ellis Park has an old fashioned fair atmosphere. Loved this little track and the friendly service. It was an even better day when your horse hits the board! The Turf Club is nice for the price and very comforting for horsemen. Very easy to navigate and get through to find somewhere to park. The ostrich and camel races were a treat to watch! This track is perfect for an afternoon at the races and the free general admission makes it worth it!

I was on a machine with my phone in my lap when the security guard came over and told me I need to put away my phone. I asked why and he told me cause it messes with the machine. When I said no it didn't, he got in my face and told me I had to leave. I had already put $200 in the machine and was down $140. I was not even given the chance to win my money back so they basically robbed me. They have ports on the machine to charge the phone but you are not allowed to have it in your lap. The most rude woman ever at Lucky Joe's tonight. We are so disappointed. Usually the people that work here are polite and the food is good. The burger WAS delicious. But the lady should seek work elsewhere.

If the owner would just invest a little money into this racetrack, it would be so much nicer to go to. The bathrooms in the grandstand have not been updated in the 20 plus years we have been going to Ellis. One plus, there is not much to do in our area, so this is good for weekend entertainment. Food in clubhouse is not too bad either.
