Decided to go through Hertz while in Canberra for our holiday rental and was not disappointed. Went with the Prestige full size suv, which to my surprise, was a brand new Landrover Defender 110. The only bad thing about this car is I had to give it back and now the wife wants one. Heaps of room for the kids and luggage. Super economical if you car about that. After calling the Canberra office to inform them that my flight had been cancelled and that I was on a later flight, I went to the office on arrival to find it closed. It was after closing time of 10.30pm (10.40) which I would have understood if not for the guy on the phone telling me that they would wait for me. So now two taxi fares to get to the hotel and back to the airport in the morning and a reschedule of work activity.

Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. I was accused of causing damage that I did not do, which took significant time and effort to dispute. I was also questioned about the validity of my driver’s licence because my hair colour had changed, which felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend hiring from here.

I have picked up several hire cars from Hertz Sydney and Canberra airports over the past year. The number of unhygenically dirty, smelly and body lice infested cars has been surprising. 3 cars this year so far I have had to return within 30 minutes and then go take a shower. I dont know what has happened at Hertz but it feels like it has gone very 3rd world.
