Was visiting from out of town and would not go back unless If service is something that is taken more seriously. We waited almost 50 minutes for our food to arrive, had to flag our host down multiple times to check into the food, had to flag multiple times to get water refilled, and even had to wait 15 min for the bill. Very poor service.
This is overall a fun place to go for a meal. Fairly large restaurant with lots of young servers, and the food is generally quite good. Juliette and Nick provided great service at two different occasions, but we were very disappointed by our dinner here. We were staying in a hotel close by so ate at this restaurant five times in a row as the food had not disappointed … until this dinner. I was really disappointed with my experience at Joey Rideau, the food quality and service were below expectations.
On booking online, and on arrival, it was explained that it was one of the party’s birthday. We thought that there may have been a small gesture to acknowledge this - e.g. a candle, or message with dessert. Unfortunately, nothing materialised - somewhat disappointing, as it was mentioned twice.
We’ve usually had great experiences at Joey’s, but our last visit was disappointing. I ordered my usual medium Steak Frites, but the steak had an odd and unpleasant taste. The staff handled it courteously and suggested I order something else, which I appreciated, but the replacement dish (Mediterranean Bowl) was just okay. My wife’s Lobster Spaghetti also seemed to have prawns instead of visible lobster. First we waiting a long while to get a waiter or waitress. A not a busy evening. Other people before us got seated and served first. We finally had a waiter. We ordered drinks. Very long time to bring the drinks over or the appetizer. We did see lots of socializing between staff. But we still waited for ordering our main meal. We ordered fish tacos. No taco shells or any the taco choices. A restaurant downtown Ottawa cannot get tacos shells in ???! There are so many restaurants in the market. I have to make better choices.
We were first introduced to Joey restaurants after enjoying a fantastic dinner at Joey on King in Toronto, ON. The meal was a bit bland, the cocktails lacking creativity for the most part, and service that night was rushed and distracted.
Great location but service was very slow and portions to cost was poor. Wouldn't recommend.
