My experience with Dr. Shenava caused me to avoid mental health treatment for years afterward.
I was admitted to the hospital for severe depression and suicidal thoughts, and they made an appointment for me to see Dr. Shenava after I was discharged. For our first appointment she just asked me the most basic questions in a really rushed manner. For our second, I told her that my current anti-depressants weren't really working, and she proceeded to insist that I wasn't exercising enough and that I was sleeping too much and playing too many video games in a really condescending and personally insulting way. I’ve never changed a psychiatrist in the past but she changed that. All she wants to do is see if your prescriptions are working and then to make another appointment. And If you fill out some of the forms they want you to do it’s clear that she doesn’t read it. Working with some of the larger mental health companies can be so difficult to deal with in that you can never just talk to a person. You need to go back and forth between the portal to try and get an answer to a simple question.
She is never on time for appointments no matter what time of day your appointment is. She was a hour later and then charged me a no show fee when I was on time. Still disputing it. Appointments are rushed but yet she is always late to them. I was doing better mentally before starting with her. I just expected integrity and ethics at minimum.
She is absolutely in this for the money and does not care about you as a person. Consistently interrupted me when sharing my experiences and told me I wasn’t suicidal enough because I didn’t have a same day plan to carry it out. She is careless and disrespectful. I seriously wouldn’t wish my worst enemy to see her. She also tried to tell me to get over my past and move on and then empathized with my abuser. Absolute insanity!!
Please avoid her at all costs she rushes through the spot cuts me off my meds with an explanation of course I called the office to send a message to her to call me of course she didn’t never wants to try to medications Yeah she’s terrible
She rushed through the appointment and left me feeling horrible about myself. She basically told me to be stronger and stop crying - she answered her phone a few times during a 30 minute appointment and handed me the script and said make an appointment in 30 days. When do I take it? When should I expect to see results - none of this discussed. I agree with the other review I left feeling much worse than when I came in - glad I wasn't suicidal. Do not recommend seeing her.
I would NEVER recommend her! I have seen a few psychiatrists, but never one that even came close to her. Stop me if I'm wrong, but I pretty sure it's her job to help people get better. So why did I feel so horrible when I left! Thank god I am not suicidal, because she could definitely push someone over the edge. I felt so disrespected by her! I didn't understood how she could diagnose me, but she never let me speak! She would ask questions and then cut me off right away!!! Go elsewhere!
