My Father has been in the emergency room at Mercy several times in the last 12 months due to cardio and back issues. The majority of the RN’s could not speak fluent English which made communicating very important health issues a big problem. Several times important medication dosage and intervals were not charted correctly or at all. Downtown Des Moines Mercy. Wait times are longer than anywhere i've ever seen in the country. I've been there three different times with family members in the last 2 years. One family member had a stroke and lost Most of their vision, and it took 13 hours to get them into a room.. Another family member had a severe reaction and was in the hospital emergency room Hallway for 2 days by the front desk. I came here after aspirating two pills, the nurses took my vitals, repeatedly told me the pill was in my throat, not my airway, and after 4 hours with no treatment I left. I coughed up the pills, barley dissolved FIVE DAYS LATER, proving it could not have been in my throat as it would have ended up in my stomach and digested. They had no reason to doubt that I aspirated them, they just chose not believe me! Following this, I have had a lung infection for over 5 weeks. I then received a bill for $600. SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS. Horrible. Brought husband in with heat stroke symptoms and waited 5.5 hours for a room. Another 1.5 hours to see a doctor. Then another 2 to be checked out!! Due to the delay he has been suffering for nearly seven days from heat related dizziness. Also this hospital is filthy. Dirty gloves and gauze on floor in room. If I could give -5 stars I would. This is by far the worst emergency room I have ever been to, they should rename it "your emergency is not a priority room". It was dirty, patients who were visibly losing consciousness weren't tended to, dirty hospital blankets all over the chairs and stuffed under them, dirty tissues on the chairs, it was disgusting. We waited 6 hours in the ER to be taken back to a room to wait another 3 hours before even being seen by a nurse again OR a doctor! No time updates from anyone, had to track so... read more
