I was honestly very hesitant to come here due to the low ratings. My daughter has a very complex medical history and normally we drive to Iowa City for care. I’m so glad we came here instead and am beyond happy with the care my daughter had received. The staff was fantastic and the nurse practitioner we saw in the ER was very thorough. Communication between the provider and my daughter’s specialists’ in Iowa City was better than I could have hoped also and I was told exactly where we were with finding answers. Do not go here unless you absolutely have to. My husband and I had a terrible experience at this ER. I’m giving two stars solely for the kindness of the first nurse and the doctor. The doctor, while he had no sense of urgency, did not keep us updated, and frequently told us ‘fifteen more minutes’ (which turned into hours), he was still kind. We were there for six hours. I was transported to Waterloo ICU for 1 1/2 hrs from my home in Iowa after I had collapsed in front of my house after severely hitting my head two days earlier. Been in for several reasons over the years. I have always found good care. I went in a week ago because my hedge trimmer safety features no longer work.. so Melinda my nurse practitioner qas ABSOLUTELY 💯! Talk about humorous and tolerant of my own bad dad jokes. The personal treatment was amazing. I really appreciate the care and commitment Melinda gave to me!
I went to the Waterloo MercyOne ER with vomiting, diarrhea, a blinding headache, nausea, and shaking — I was visibly ill, in a wheelchair, and clearly dehydrated. I waited over 4 hours (with a referral from your urgent care) without anyone offering fluids or giving any medical attention whatsoever. My HR and O2 were taken an hour into the visit and I was returned to the waiting room. Multiple patients with less severe issues were taken back before me.
