I recently used Northwind Kennels to board my West Highland Terrier while we went away on a week long cruise. I was very pleased with the experience. When I returned to pick up my dog, he was in good spirits, happy and healthy. He seemed to love the staff and was not nervous at all. It looked like he wouldn't mind staying there again! I've been using this boarding facility for 12 years and counting. I have purebred German Shepherds both older (12+) and younger (2 yo). My dogs have always been well taken care of here. I've walked through this facility many, many times both picking up my dogs and dropping them off both announced and unannounced. It is always clean and secure. Yes, it smells like cats "at times" but - bless her soul - the Owner never turns away a cat in need of care or which has been abandoned - and shame on you for faulting her for it. The ... read more

I went here to adopt a dog and was taken back by the entire visit. The place was very dirty, smelled so bad that I almost threw up! I felt so bad for the dogs but I decided to go to another shelter to adopt. I will never board my animal here after seeing the conditions of this so called kennel. I'm shocked that the health department allows such filth!

A letter from "Buddy's Mom" about his stay at Northwind!! – May 5, 2011 Dearest Karen and Penny, I can't even begin to THANK YOU for taking the very best care of Buddy, our 6 1/2 yr.old Soft-coated Wheaton Terrier, for us while we were away. Avoid!!!!! – On March 26, 08, our two pets, Walter and Stitch, were taken to Northwind Kennels in Bedford, NY to be boarded and cared for until April 9, 2008. On April 9, 2008, upon our return from a business trip, Walter and Stitch were picked up at the kennel. We became very concerned when Stitch was not responding to us and appeared listless. We rushed him to an emergency clinic. The attending veterinarian at the emergency clinic pronounced him D.O.A. An autopsy was performed, and a stone was found lodged in his urethra. ... read more
