The house was absolutely disgusting when we arrived. Everything from raw fish guts still in the fridge, to the house smelling like rotten fish, to the stained carpet and cobwebs on the ceilings. In a post-covid world the cleaning standards should be much higher. This house wasn't even cleaned to pre-pandemic standards. They advertise and book rentals that are not in condition to rent at the time of rental. String you along until a month out, then tell you that you’re cancelled. That there in no other rental available. Here’s you refund, sorry about that. Be warned ‼️😡
We’ve been coming to oak island and used OIA many times with no issues. This year was different. We arrived to dirty linens in the driveway and a terrible smell in the house. We discovered fish guts and blood splattered across the back of the refrigerator and had to spend a long while taking it apart and cleaning it. The counters were all dirty with crumbs/food. OIA does NOT protect renters. Received a call yesterday that our 7/11-18 rental was not going to be available. Was promised a same-day refund. Today am being told it will take 3-5 days for the refund to process which was not even submitted yesterday. If they can process same day payments, why can they not process same day refunds? Last year, we had issues with several repairs needed at our rental house, but they did not resolve before we left. Agreements do not protect renters at all.
Beware of this company. They cancelled our reservation 1 month before check in. The property we rented is undergoing construction from hurricane damage. That's reasonable, but I believe they waited to cancel until the date my 2nd/final payment was due despite knowing the status of the property not being able to be occupied (the hurricane damage from last year didn't suddenly occur). We have used Oak Island Accommodations for the past ten years. This year was a completely different experience. We arrived to our house (by public beach parking, ocean front) at 3pm. We contacted the office to inquire about early release of our house. We were told maintenance/cleaning was still being done. No one was in sight. At four pm, the we were allowed access. We have been going to Oak Island since 2009 and have always stayed in an oceanfront home and have always had the best time. Prior to this year, Oak Island Accommodations has been wonderful. They have been responsive to any problem we have had. One year, our home was not going to be ready for our stay because of a delay in repairs. OIA PROACTIVELY called us and offered us another home, larger than the one we had originally rented, with all the amenities we required, and at no extra cost. buyer beware. they do not stand behind their rentals. they tell you it is between you and owner. rent on your own. will probably do much better. had too many issues to mention. never again
Worst customer service & poor communication. Conflicting information given to us when we spent over 3K for this week at one of their properties. Can’t blame covid for everything folks! Get it together Oak Island Accommodations! I should of listened to the individuals that told us not to rent one your properties. Never again. Big thumbs down! 👎
