Overall, the car worked well and I had no issues with the vehicle itself. However, my experience with customer service was disappointing. On Saturday, April 25, the staff member who initially assisted me was quite rude in her attitude and tone. She spoke to me in a condescending way, often raising her eyebrow and explaining things as if she were scolding me or speaking out of annoyance. We were given a Toyota Rav4 Hybrid on pickup which was a godsend as fuel prices had surged prior to arriving in Australia. Having done 5200kms the savings on fuel costs were significant. Thank you to the staff at Thrifty Coolangatta Airport, you're awesome.
Curt, dry service from manager (Janine) on pick up. Issue with proving address as I'm local (gave bank proofs of address, and 2 government proofs of address). Car was $30 more than internet booked priced (manager said it was airport tax). Filled car with petrol until full (car would only register as 7/8 full). Was charged an additional $55 to fuel 10 litres plus taxes ($78.91 total additional). Kia K4 tank is 47 litres, which means 1/8 is less than 10 litres. I reserved a Ford Ranger which falls under the 'Premium 4WD ute' category. Online this is listed as holding 2 large luggage, 2 small luggage & 5 passengers. However, upon picking up the vehicle there was no cover for the tray, rendering it useless for holding luggage. The vehicle was unable to be used for its purpose and we were unable to transport our luggage for our trip. AVOID Thrifty Coolangatta(Gold Coast Airport). Despite pre-booking a large/intermediate car, it wasn't available and we were given a small car to rent, but the rate was the same. My wife and two daughters could barely fit. I wanted to cancel the booking at pickup, but was told I would lose my deposit. The manager, some young girl at the Thrifty desk told me to email customer service and see about a rate change.
