I was drawn to one of the primary therapists listed on Psychology Today with a great profile. She then referred me to an associate in online North Haven who was such a disappointment. I worked with her for 6 months and I can't even remember her name. I was really P/O'd when she told me I shouldn't feel the way I feel! Be skeptical about referrals.
Professionalism is necessary in every provider-client relationship. I do not feel like I received this during my first psychiatric appointment. My ex-provider repeatedly asked me the same questions throughout our first meeting because he was not paying attention. Moreover, he did not inquire into my background and trauma like therapists and psychiatrists do. Having that information is important for making diagnoses and adequate medication advice. Bernadette was there for me when I needed her. I was going through some fairly tough things in my life and realized I need help. She is compassionate and thoughtful.
