I’ve been a patient of Dr. Shanker’s for over a year and although it has been such a dark and hard time in my life, I can honestly say I couldn’t ask for better care. I’ve had two surgeries + a colonoscopy done by her, and a third surgery done by her partner at the beginning of this mess. She is an incredible surgeon: straight, to the point, no BS but truly makes you feel like you can trust her with your life. My husband is a new patient with this group and saw a PA who was excellent. waiting to hear about scheduling a procedure, but we could not get in to see anyone at U of M even though he has been a patient there for years. Doesn’t matter how good they are if you can’t actually get an appointment for months. This has been a recurring problem with specialty clinics for some time. Horrible service and no respect for patients. Was stuck at guest services trying to find where my appointment was located. They took forever. And told me to reschedule a month out. No one in the room. 845 am appointment and I live an hour a way and still came out in the snow storm. Don't bother with this hospital. No point. They won't see you.

I saw Dr. McClure some years ago when I was having trouble with what I thought was some kind of inflammation issue, or potentially a color issue. It turned out to be hemorrhoids and something called hidradentitis supurativa. Dr. McClure was amazing and very kind. She wanted me to have a colonoscopy but I shied away from it, being young then. I changed my diet and the disorder hasn't reared it's ugly head again. I had a colectomy done with Dr McClure. I had previously been a patient at UoM, but felt that the quality of care had nosedived. I found a different doctor who recommended Dr McClure, and I cannot express how relieved and grateful that I picked her as my surgeon— and not just her, but ALL of the Trinity Health support staff after surgery. All of the nurses, techs, care managers, etc were so kind and friendly. It made the whole experience a lot less scary.
