Great automatic pool cleaner! Works excellent and lasts a long time at a very reasonable price! I've used 5 different automatic pool cleaners in 22 years and this is the best vacuum for my use by far. It's inexpensive, never gets stuck, climbs the sides, rarely gets clogged, has only one moving part and cleans excellent. I've tried the Zodiac MX-8 and it works really well but it's more expensive than the Barracuda and started having problems after one year because of my sheading gritty pebble tech finish damaging the gear tr... read more
Far better than Kreepy Krawly I purchased a Kreepy Krawly (KK) 7 years ago. I have a 17'x43' lazy L inground with a 9' deep end. It has stainless steel sides & a concrete plaster bottom. Once the KK went into the deep it never left, even with 3 hose weights. It was time to try my luck again on a sub-$500 cleaner. Numerous professional reviews gave the G3 high marks, while one had a caveat that it wasn't intended for Pools deeper than 6'. I took a chance, if it didn't work I'd return it. Setup was straight forward & simple. I... read more
Replaced Old G3 with this New G3 This replaced a much older G3 - finally some key parts such as the ring and the plastic nut that holds the diaphragm tube in place cracked. The new one - it's virtually identical so, if replacing an existing one, it's a good idea to keep the old connection set up that goes into the skimmer so you can assemble it the same way. The instructions can be slightly confusing and if your old one is set up correctly, you can save time using the old one as a guide.Function Notes-a) there is a rubber pl... read more
Replaced a Hayward Navigator The G3 arrived without an owner’s manual, only the “Quick Start Guide”. This was not sufficient to install the unit. I downloaded the owner’s manual at Amazon. This pool cleaner replaced a Hayward Navigator that was worn out. I had my returns pointing to the top of the pool and decided to not follow the instructions to point them downward. The cleaner just kept cleaning in the same pattern at the shallow end of the pool. I broke out the wrench and pointed the flow downwards and the G3 started clea... read more
My 4hp Pentair VS Pool Pump has to run at MAX to get this thing to move I had a Kreepy Krawly for about 5 years, this year it just had too many cracks to create enough suction at the opening, so I decided to go get another.Initially I was going to get the same thing but decided since I liked my Zodiac leaf canister so much that their pool cleaner would be as easy to use. I feel I was quite wrong and for that I am stuck with a mediocre at best cleaner. The assembly was extremely easy, and taking it apart is not hard either. In... read more
WAY better than KK Outdoor 28,000 gal pool in FL. Had the Kreepy Krawly for the past 4 years and was never happy/satisfied with it as it continually got stuck on shallow end steps. I tried all the "tricks" recommended online and finally gave up on it and then it broke anyway. I did lots of review reading and finally decided on the Baracuda. I have had it running daily for about 3 months now and its only gotten stuck a handful of times and usually on the ladder in our deeper end. I attached a skim-a-round that never worked ve... read more
Good Pool Suction Vacuum I once had the G4 version of this which lasted 3 years in Florida. After a number of years of manually vacuuming the pool, I finally broke down and purchased a new one.Having experience with these types of suction based pool vacs, I had no issues getting this set up and running as well as what to expect from it.1) Will clean the bottom of your pool well and if you get enough suction will climb the walls too but that is not the true design of these vacuums.2) Will not clean stairs.3) Will eventually g... read more
This little sucker works great :) I have a 20 x40 painted concrete rectangular pool with 12 foot deep bowl shape bottom on deep end. Two skimmers and three returns. We have a lot of trees in the yard and our dogs love to play in the pool so there is always debris in the pool. The pool is a bear to vacuum by hand. After hours of vacuuming every week I finally had enough and decided it was time to lay out the cash for an automatic cleaner. After some intensive research I landed on the barracuda G3. I made the purchase and wait... read more
Requires Too Much Suction I have previously purchased two Xtremepower (XT) vacuums. The price was right at $100, this one seems by far more expensive, but the XT only lasted one year. It gets stuck a lot and begins to slowly fall a part. It leaves a bunch of plastic pieces in the pool. I thought that it was not too bad to spend a $100 every year, but I thought I give the Zodiac a try. To get comparable results it has to last two years and three years to be ahead of the game. So far it has not had any problems getting stuck, ... read more
