I wanted to join for 3 months until I could apply for silver sneakers, through Medicare. The manager told me to sign up for 3 yrs as the pmt would be less and I could cancel anytime! (I now assume it was because I’d be changing to SS) When the time came open enrollment I found out that because of a cancer diagnosis the previous May, I was stuck with the program I had. This business is corrupt!!! Same issue I am seeing in all these reviews. I tried to cancel my membership as a gym closer opened up. When I joined in October of 2022 the gym manager in Ocala fl gave me a form I signed and stated I could cancel anytime without reason and pay a small fee. When I tried to cancel in Jan 2023 they told me my contract was null in void without even any written document of new rules and I sure didn’t sign anything new. THIS IS THE WORST BUSINESS TO SIGN UP WITH. DO NOT DO IT. There is zero flexibility to cancel membership, no one staffs the gyms even during staffed hours, and there is no accountability. I am also specifically talking about the ************, **** location. There is zero accountability, urgency and customer service. I have been trying to cancel my membership since September. They sugar coat the agreements making it sound like you can cancel membership but then when you need the membership to stop due to disability they aren't available at the location and they do not answer phone to freeze membership. I have not used their services or ****************** I didn't want to begin with.

I was a member at Anytime fitness for about 2 years. Over the past 2 years they have changed their staff/ managers quite a lot over the past 2 years I was a member. In June of 2022, I talked to a manager named **** and asked if I can cancel my membership since it was then on a month-to-month contract that year after signing a "mandatory" $50/per month for my 1st year contract. After months of not using our memberships my wife and I called to cancel them during covid. Since my wife could not receive the vaccine because she was pregnant we asked multiple times to do this electronically to avoid coming in and protect our unborn child. They told me this was not an option and that I must continue to pay until she can come in and sign. My husband is on Active duty orders and is unable to use his Anytime Fitness membership. He has called and they stated they needed a certified letter via the mail for him to cancel. His intent was for me to do that for him then come to find out that certified means that he has to show his id to send this letter. I called and they said no we just need a letter but it needs to have this information in it. I was happy to oblige and go forward. They scammed me. When I signed up, the lady said I could cancel anytime. I even read everything I signed, and it did not mention I was committed to a membership. I explained the situation to a higher up regional guy, but he did not care or did not believe me.Other than that, it's a nice gym.Tip for other people who want out: My contract (yours may be different) says that Anytime Fitness can cancel the contract at any time for any reason.
