He is always very thorough and asks a lot of question about how you feel. He wants to make sure he has a clear picture before he recommends a plan of treatment. He took over my treatment from my primary care over 3 years ago. It was not being managed properly and ever since I have been on an upswing and feel fantastic.

I was referred to Dr. Shuman by my GP to monitor me for possible prostate cancer based on a rise in PSA and family history of the disease.Knowing these facts, Dr. Shuman treated me for BPH for almost two years. He was about to tell my GP that I needn’t see him anymore, when my GP saw some disturbing images of my prostate on an MRI that I had recently had and asked Dr. Shuman to do a biopsy. He did, and it showed that I indeed have prostate cancer. Two wasted years could have made a difference in my outcome—I now have stage 4 ... read more

I have never been treated with this kind of disrespect and lack of sympathy. If you're looking for someone to actually listen to you and be a decent human being...look elsewhere.

The most impolite doctor I've ever encountered

I had a very bad experience with Dr. Schuman. My PSA tests showed an increase in PSA, so he wanted to do a prostate biopsy. I researched this procedure through many journals. Dr. Shuman said anaesthesia wasn't necessary for 12+ samples; a journal article said if a doctor insisted on a biopsy with no anaesthesia, run for the hills! Dr. Shuman also refused a bacterial check of fecal bacteria for drug resistance. I went to another Dr. who used anaesthesia: no pain. I had resistant fecal bacteria.

I can only review person who returned my call on Friday and again on Monday. Can't review Dr. as I can't get past the rudeness of staff. Hung up on twice. Promised a call back Friday after speaking with someone at 9 AM. Called back at 4 PM as morning phone promise of call back hadn't happened. Rude person hung up on me while I was crying. Person called back on Monday, was rude asked if "I wanted the appointment" I said no and started to explain why, hung up on again....

Today, Friday, October 7, 2016, I had an appointment with Dr. Shuman for 10:15 AM. I checked in and waited 30 minutes for them to usher me into an examining room. 50 minutes later, the doctor came in and said nothing about being sorry for the inordinate amount of time I had to wait, and when I asked him what was going on, he immediately became defensive, and abusive and said I could leave if I didn't like it. Which did. Very unprofessional. He obviously overbooked and didn't want to own it.
