this is my second visit to the santa maria café and to me it makes no sense at all that the waiter cannot take your payment for the food you have to wait to get in and we had to wait about twice as long to get out the line to get iln was not to bad but when it come to paying the bill there was 4 or 5 people in line to pay their check and the waitress that was taking the payment for the food was selling pies and having tko bkox them up which took a lot of time when the wait person could have taken the bill and collected j... read more

My husband and I first tried the Black Bear Finer location in Las Vegas and enjoyed everything about it. It was our go to location to eat every visit. We have been to the location in Arvin, California and always enjoy it. Being that we are from Lancaster , we were thrilled knowing they'd open a location in Palmdale. I took my 91 year old mother to Black Bear Diner in Santa Maria, CA today for Mother's Day. We have eaten at Black Bear Diner in Modesto and Gilroy and loved it. Santa Maria not so much and I cannot say I will go back there again. No on welcome us to the restaurant just asked how many and seated us. Our waitress got us drinks. We placed our order for you Roasted Turkey Dinner. I have not heard good things about the food, but I had received a coupon in the mail for a discount and thought I would try. I am sorry, however, about the review of the food - since I did not actually eat. I sat there for 30 minutes being ignored by the staff, so I left. Too bad you spent so much $ on advertising, since neither I, or my family and friends in the area, will go to the restaurant. I think the staff / management forget how powerful word of mouth advertising is - good AND bad reviews.

Sloan was a GREAT waitress! The only unhappy thing about the visit was trying to find something gluten free I could eat. The receptionist checked with the cook and was told only a GF bun which didn't make sense. I asked her what about the ham/cheese omelet. She checked and said no. Then I asked our server who checked and was told the omelet was safe. I wish you had a gf menu and personnel who knew the anwser

We went to Black Bear Santa Maria for breakfast, we had been there in the past and at other locations. In the stores defense the place was full (we were seated immediately at the last available table) however we waited 20 minutes for drinks over an hour for food and when it arrived the eggs were cold and runny, the bacon (which I took a picture of was black) and the potatoes were under cooked. We waited almost an hour to get our order of Bob's Big Bear Burger so we decided to leave and find dinner somewhere else. I don't blame the waitress she was attentive but the order shouldn't have taken that long. There weren't very many tables occupied and two of three tables occupied in our area received their orders even though they ordered after I did.

I don’t see how you can say your food is “made to order” and then serve canned green beans. Tacky! I enjoyed the rest of my dinner but the green beans were a turn off.

The service was awful. Their was maybe 5 other tables there besides us and it took at least 10mins to ask for our drink order, then another 10 to ask for our food order. I felt like I was bothering her (she was the manager which made it even worse). When she brought out the food she dropped my sons plate on the table and he touched the plate to start eating and Screamed because the plate was HOT, she didn’t bother to say “be careful it’s Really Hot!” Or even to say “I’m sorry!
