Dr. Romaine gave me back my life when he performed a perfect replacement on my right hip. Due to my weight, other surgeons would not even give me an appt in spite of the fact that I have no other medical problems. Dr. Romaine's experience in doing joint replacements on other obese patients and his compassion and intelligence allow him to look beyond the outdated "no elective surgeries for those with a BMI>40" philosophy. Thanks to this kind, skilled surgeon I no longer lie in bed day after day!
I feel very fortunate to have had such a skilled surgeon to perform my total knee replacement. Dr. Gilbert was caring, thorough and professional. He answered all my questions and helped me to feel at ease. His entire staff was very helpful to me as well. The physical therapists were great too! I can’t say enough good things about my experience there!

Dr. Hallows and staff, including PA Casey Clarke are outstanding orthopedic providers. If you are looking for a very competent and caring team for a knee or hip replacement, they are amazing. They are very thorough and extremely knowledgeable on the best techniques and pre and post op care. Duke is an amazing facility where you feel very fortunate to be receiving your medical and surgical care there. Can't thank them enough for my new joint and giving me my life back.
The services I received from Dr. Ryan Takenaga were exceptional from my first visit to my last visit. He's caring, personable, knowledgeable, and very professional. After seeing several physicians, I met Dr. Michael Merz. I found him to be very professional, but his kindness and empathy came through. I’m a registered nurse, but did not reveal my education to him when I saw him for a consultation. Normally, I would have seen a Duke or UNC orthopedic surgeon. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give him a 20!! I would gladly, with confidence, recommend him.
