Shopping around for a storage unit in the Brookline/Brighton area wasn't easy. After visiting a rogue's gallery of self-storage options, I finally made my way to Extra Space and found exactly what I was looking for: a convenient and well-priced option. This Brighton location is situated near WGBH's headquarters and is directly across from a UPS rental site (ie- nearby rental trucks and boxes!). I both love and fear Extra Space Storage. As I was traveling between 3 apartments in the month of August (because that's how I roll when people get crazy), Extra Space was where I kept all of my rat-packing-life. From start to finish, this place was pretty great.. GO! Start = New apartment fell through/Old apartment got rented. Trish = Screwed. Realtor = Saved the day (but that's another review). This place is horrible. They don't maintain the office hours like they say they do. They charge you additional fees and don't give you all the information where your unit is. Some units at 10 feet off the ground and they called them lockers but they don't tell you that. The person who runs the place his name is Alex. No customer service skills and very unhelpful and non-responsive when you have a problem. The specific storage place I would not recommend at all

I need to use storage units from time to time in Allston and Brighton area. Extra Space Storage is the by far worst storage facility in terms of management, customer service, and accessibility. They can change access hours without giving you notice and make you wait locked out for hours without an explanation.

DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY! Waited at the door at 9:20 for the office to open. At 9:30 the door opens automatically- I walk in & the employee doesn't greet meet or even look up. He shuffles papers for 10 mins. before helping me. I needed a unit or I would have left. After going through the contract, taking my cash, etc. I leave to get my car. Once I'm backed up to the garage door, he WON'T open the door because his car is inside. He wanted me to move all of my stuff in through the regular door! 1. Mouse poop on my things. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle to complain to the manager, as I probably wouldn't get anywhere. So I left 2 pillows next to the dumpster. It was locked, so I didn't see how else to get in there. 2. I was charged a $25 fee for leaving the damaged pillows next to the dumpster. There was no notice that this fee was being charged - they just put it through to my credit card. 3. When I called to complain about the fee, I was told the manager wasn't there to speak to. Mouse poop Rent hikes Flood damage Don't be fooled, this place is much crappy or than it looks overtime with new owners and changing policies, it's really turned into a shit hole cannot recommend it.

Way too confusing with the pricing. Beware of climate control vs. heated, and if you're not on the first floor, assume you're going to be in the basement. The web prices are completely misleading--I started in on a room, reserved, but on talking to the operator more, realized it was in the basement. I asked if it was damp at all, he said absolutely not, it's climate controlled.
