I switched to Dr. Brenner after my previous doc in the same clinic retired. Yes, Dr. Brenner could use a class in bedside manner, but personally I don't mind. The man is very knowledable, and he gets to the point. I like that he does not treat me like a child and trusts me when I say that I know something. I really like Dr. Brenner, I feel that he is conservative with medication, which I also appreciate.
I think Dr. Brenners "bedside manner" might be a little weak, but he's a heck of a smart doctor and he's very good. My first visit I was a bit skeptical but I'd heard/read that about him, so I expected it. Some people don't like hearing blunt facts, but if I'm discussing my health with a doctor I don't need it sugar coated. He has always been very accurate with his treatment of my health issues, he'll listen and respond to me well. I liked Dr. Brenner and only switched doctors because I moved out of the area. I never felt rushed by him, and he is very kind. His nurses are fantastic too - and super super smart! I will say that I was disappointed that it took a visit to Urgent Care and then ER to diagnose me with type II diabetes. And when I went to see him for my follow up from the hospital he said, "I knew it." What does that mean? None the less, he was great in working with me to bring my sugar to a perfect healthy level. Dr. Brenner was recommended to me, but I was quite dissatisfied with him. At my new-patient visit, I discussed with him my several medicine sensitivities, and he was quite dismissive and actually became a little argumentative. I figured he was having a bad day, but in a subsequent interaction with him (about a side effect of a medication he had prescribed) I encountered the same dismissiveness. I left his practice a week after I started there.
Dr. Brenner is a highly competent physician. He is a good listener and he is most accommodating when one has a minor medical emergency. His location at US 234 and Plymouth Rds is excellent. Parking is fine and his office is modern and tastefully decorated. I would highly recommend him to peopele who appreciate skill and a patient listener.
I had several problems for years and moved to Ann Arbor after college. My hometown doctor had just brushed the issues aside. On my first visit with Dr. Brenner, he immediately found an enlarged thyroid and sent me to a specialist. He also sent me to a specialist for the chronic sinus infections that I was getting. After having 1/2 my thyroid removed, I felt wonderful...not as run-down which I thought was due to school. Also got asthma meds for my chronic sinus issues and haven't had an infection in 5 years! Very knowlegeable,responsive, pleasant. I find it difficult to understand why anyone would rate him at the low end of the scale.
Dr. Brenner refused to help me when I really needed it. He acknowledged the problem and then completely left me in the lurch. I have never been treated so poorly in my life. His office staff was no help either.
I saw Dr. Brenner for a Medicare Wellness visit. He asked me how I was. I told him that I was very tired, depressed, and for the first time in my life, I was having trouble losing weight. Due to my family history of hypothyroidism I asked him to check my thyroid. He refused to order the test, and said, "All women want to blame their weight on their thyroid." Later I got a bill for $131.14 from IHA. I called and asked why I was charged when Medicare pays for these visits 100%. They said that they would ask Dr. Brenner, and ge... read more
