Better than Napa
Some of my wine snob friends have shunned Paso Robles for Napa, but I fail to understand why. There are between 200-300 wineries here, many of which have superior wine and first
class tasting rooms. Experience in Napa last year (before the fires) found us in gridlock driving one winery to the next. Here the drive is a delight with spectacular views since this is a much hillier region.
We visited the amazing wine caves of Eberle, where for a $35 fee per person one can reserve a room in the cave for a VIP tasting event for a private party. It even has a wedding venue in the cave. The free wine tour was very enlightening, and the wine tasting was free and above average.
The view from Dagu is stunning, but be prepared for a $20 tasting fee that is waived for 2 bottles of wine but their wine is rather expensive. Their cab is at least as good as that from Silver Oak IMHO, but like Silver Oak costs big bucks. They also serve food.
The tasting fees are more than I have experienced elsewhere, but with a 2 bottle purchase these are waived.
We plan to bring our wine connoisseur friends from back East here next year.

Business Response:
Thank you for sharing your wonderful experiences in Paso Wine Country. Ditto, Paso has made its mark with world-class wines from an abundance of wineries that are receiving lots of awards for their lovely wines. There are many wineries to explore including boutique and micro wineries where the passionate owners and family members are pouring. At these wineries you get an intimate view of their vineyards and winemaking victories and insights into their challenges. There is so much sacrifice and love that goes into each bottle. Big or small, we hope that you have a wonderful time in Paso. We love our Napa friends too and give them full credit for their dedication, hard work and talent that put California on the map. Cheers! Hope you can get your wine connoisseur friends to join you next year. Warmly, Lauren

Fine Wine, Fine Time !
Very east to navigate this town, going to wineries of your choice or take a tour - it's lovely scenery and uncrowded (well, except for Tobin James Winery's tasti
ng room - but hey, it's most fun and free). I do not recommend going in July, it was scorching hot. Downtown area was great place to walk and eat. Quaint feel to it. Many interesting wineries - Paso Robles is a good vibe! more »

World Class Wineries
I have often said that smart winemakers in Napa Valley buy their grapes from Paso Robles vineyards. And it's true. And Paso Robles is coming its own now that winemakers
here are producing very hi-quality wines. Paso Robles is most known for its Rhone-style wines; however, Cabernet Sauvignon on is the most planted great here, and the quality of this wine shows very well here. There are many top-level winemakers here in Paso Robles who have been making wines here for decades. There tends to be a lot more creativity and experimentation here versus other wine regions, which leads to a lot of fun discovering and exploring the wine regions of Paso Robles. more »

Testing Two a Day!
Tasted wines at Still Waters and Eberle vineyards. The latter has extensive wine caves keeping thousands of barrels of wine cool and fermenting. A MUST SEE
Still Waters
was the sight of our niece's wedding under historic olive trees. The vineyards in the background made for an incredible setting and a remarkable service.
We needed to be sober for the 5:00 PM Wedding, so we stopped after tastings at these two wineries. They had to be two of the very best!

So much wine - not enough time
Over 200 wineries - all types, small to large. Many with music and restaurants. Be sure to check out Tooth and Nail and Aron. If coming in summer bring a cooler in
your car so your wine can stay cool as you visit the various wineries. more »

3 days of the most beautiful, uncrowded and tasty wineries
I'll never go to Napa again. Paso has much more beautiful scenery, is much less crowded, has more variety in wines and is far chea
per than Napa or Sonoma. The wines were excellent, the people friendly and restaurants very good with good value. more »

Lovely Vistas Around Paso Robles
We enjoyed visiting several wineries but thought overall the quality was not nearly as good as Napa or Sonoma. Our favorites were Castoro and Midnight. Only a co
uple of the wineries serve lunch (and mostly on the weekends) but it is not very far into Templeton where there are quite a few restaurants. The best idea might be to pick up sandwiches and fruit and bring your own lunch since some of the settings are lovely. more »
