It took over 4 months to close my refinance. There was a time period when I received little communication about the delay. During the time period I shopped for other loan providers and found a better rate. Penny Mac did match the rate but I had to do all the leg work to make that happen. I was also asked for the same documents on multiple occasions even when I had already provided them, which seemed to slow the process as well. The response of my team was good but process needs improvement.
Super easy to refinance! Everything was explained very clearly and moved quickly once we submitted the necessary paperwork.
Despite the number of applications they are processing right now, this refi went thru fairly painlessly and the PennyMac team (Nicholas in particular) was very good the whole process. They didn't ask for a lot of unnecessary documents like other lenders have asked for. Their communication was good during the whole process. Refi's are taking longer these days understandably but PennyMac seems to be much better than the other lenders I have checked in with about Refi's.
It was really a very smooth experience on our loan application and I got a better rate and shorter terms. It was nice when people communicate in a timely manner. It was great.
I was not given information that I would need to cancel existing mortgage autopayments 5-7 days in advance. Funds were withdrawn right as the loan was being funded and Carlton has been unresponsive in terms of advising how to refund the unncessary payment. I have requested information 4 times and was told to call the generic 800 number - not helpful. Paystubs were requested & provided multiple times & I had to explain to Carlton that pay periods were monthly and solve the problem for him.

I don't think there was communication between the loan officer Arthur Tate and the processor Joseph as they both called me with the same questions. I had to continue to call for status on my loan, Joseph said he would follow up with me but he wouldn't. Also, there was an issue at the end with pricing/ credits that Joseph and Tate kept going back and forth and blaming each other on the error. The LO Arthur was very tentative at the begging and then communication was lost.
