An attraction not many tourists know about. Walking distance from Trastevere station. Great variety of local food, music and drinks and parties during the weekends. Rich flavors bearing many famous restaurants. Real food.
Mercato Testaccio is a vibrant, authentic food market that offers a true taste of Roman life. Located in the heart of the Testaccio district, this market is a haven for food lovers, with its mix of traditional vendors and contemporary food stalls. The variety of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, and pasta is remarkable, with each vendor showcasing the best local ingredients. Whether you’re looking for fresh f... read more
In my opinion, this place is a bit overrated, food-wise. The building and the market itself are quite impressive, no doubt - it’s a must see. But unfortunately, these days it already suffers from being overly touristic, I literally walked here with crowds of foreigners. Hence, the staff feels a bit uninterested, overwhelmed and the prices are on the higher side. Also, try to come earlier in the day - afternoons can be a bit empty. From what I can recommend is Rosa Cibo Italiana.
A great little local market filled with food to take home and cook, restaurants and outlets where you could eat and a sprinkling of clothing, footwear, homewares and jewellery stores. The Isles have all the like types grouped together, so it's easy to find your way around and duck in and out of the areas. We have witnessed much better markets in Italy and were a little surprised that this one had such great reviews.
Fantastic stop for an easy lunch, there are many stalls and types of foods to choose from. Beware the cups of fresh watermelon which sell for 3.50 each (!). I ordered two without asking the price.
