I am really pleased with your skilled nursing facility. I can tell you; I wish we would have found your facility first. My mom was in another facility after having a fall at home and needed a rehab facility. She then had another fall while in that facility and needed to have surgery. The surgery went very well and after, I wanted my mom to transition to another facility that would provide quality, safe care for additional rehab, rather than the one she was previously in. I spoke with the social worker who was assigned to my mom in the acute care facility after having surgery and I expressed to her what was important to me. I then learned of Wesley Woods and my mom transitioned there for rehab with the goal being that she would stay in the long-term care area after she completed her rehab.
When my mom first came to Wesley Woods, the care team did weekly conferences with our family since my mom was having rehab. I was very impressed with those updates –they were always very thorough. My brother lives farther away so we would conference him into the meetings. It was nice that both my brother and I were always updated from the very beginning.
Once she transitioned out of rehab, and due to the pandemic, I did window visits with her almost every day. With the many changes throughout the pandemic, the staff always made sure my mom was sitting by the window in her chair. The room was always clean. My mom never looked disheveled and she was always smiling. She was always talking with the nurses and nursing assistants. Honestly, I feel like I’ve bonded with everyone who has cared for my mom. They always call me back if I need to speak with them, they know me by name. I especially love Gilbert; he is a rockstar.
All of the nurses value my medical input. I am a nurse. I don’t ever try and direct them, but I feel like they take my thoughts into consideration and they give personalized care to my mom that is centered around her. It is a very consistent staff. They know my mom and interact with her. I also love Lindsey. She always goes the extra mile with my mom. It’s those little things. I really feel like it’s my mom’s home and it’s not a nursing facility. I think that is a key thing for me. Communication has been great with Wesley Woods. If anything at all changes, they communicate with me. Safety is not an extra layer here; it’s really incorporated into everything that they do. It makes me feel at ease – I don’t have to worry. I can give my input and they don’t shut me out. We have casual conversations, and they consider my thoughts which I appreciate. The nurse practitioner is very knowledgeable and on top of things. My mom is now receiving end of life care and so, I get to see her under the guidelines set out by the state and Wesley Woods. The staff has been wonderful with this process and I feel very fortunate.
I really like it here because no one pushes an agenda with my mom. It’s really a collaborative environment. The life enrichment activities are amazing. There is always music playing and things going on. Never have I seen my mom have her fingernails painted. During one of our window visits she had her nails done and kept saying to me how much she loved that her nails were painted. Again, it’s those little things that make it a home for my mom, not a medical facility.
I don’t have to worry because they truly care for my mom – she isn’t just another patient.
