Get directionsOur mom lived at Aegis for over 10 years with most years in their memory care area. She started in the regular assisted living apartment then transitioned to the memory care after her dementia worsened. The building was very clean and was kept up to date like a five star hotel. We were there long enough to see building improvements like new furniture, floors, carpets and paint, etc. The care staff was very patient with my mom. They found different activities for her as her health declined over the years. They worke... read more
My Yeh-Yeh (paternal grandfather) has lived here since 2007. It's very culturally Chinese, but most of the staff also speaks English. There are plenty of activities for the seniors here: Bingo, crafts, light exercise, occasional music performances, monthly birthday celebrations, and of course, MJ. What Chinese place doesn't have MJ? His room is well-maintained, and they are good about corresponding with my dad and uncle over Yeh-Yeh's needs. Although I don't like that he is unable to live by himself anymore, I like this pla... read more
Our mom was at Aegis Gardens for a little over 2 1/2 years. She had advanced Alzheimers and so lived in Life's Neighborhood. This was the second assisted living facility for my mom, since when we moved Mom, we also moved Dad who had to leave his home and be cared for under a more structured environment. There are many outstanding features of Aegis Gardens and here are some highlights: 1. The Care and the Staff. All of the care-givers and supervising staff are Asian and even though I did not speak Mandarin or Cantonese, ... read more
As I watched my 92 year old father from Hawaii convalesce from spinal surgery and slowly try to regain his mobility, I wondered if there would be an assisted living residence to meet his needs and my concerns: 1. Exceptionally reliable care with his daily needs and prompt response for help. 2. Consistent access to activities and gentle exercise. 3. A director who is easily accessible and responsive 4. A friendly and respectful staff 5. A clean, well lighted residence 6. A place he would call home Today, four years later ... read more
My mother-in-law is an 88 year old Cantonese speaking Chinese woman, who has been a resident of Aegis Gardens for the past two years. She is beset with Alzheimer's Disease, a heart condition and diabetes. Her dementia includes but is not limited to memory loss, mood swings, verbal and (at times) physical combativeness, wandering, resistance to having blood tests, resistance to eating and resistance to regular physical activity. However, she can still recognize close kins and feed herself. At the onset, finding a suitable... read more
My brother and I moved our mother here 5 years ago, and we were so delighted with the decision. Our mother did not speak English well, and was developing dementia. She also was very independent and it took lots of guile and convincing on our part to move her to Aegis. Once Mom settled in, she made many new friends, with the fellow residents and the staff. The manager of Aegis Gardens, Ms. Emily Poon, was like an angel. Nothing was too small. Nothing was too big, and Emily was always responsive. My mother was not an easy ... read more
We decided to move my mom here and I'm 100% confident in the decision. The place is a little pricy (minus 1 star) but I think it's worth it. The residents talk to one another and the facilities are well maintained. The workers here all work very hard and there doesn't seem to be as high of a turn over rate as in other homes. It is right across the street from American High School and a couple of times I've seen teens over there doing their community service hours. It is still our first year here, so I'll be sure to u... read more
Stay away. The senior general manager, managers, and the facility itself present a good front. Aegis Gardens (AG) is the only mainly Chinese, Mandarin-speaking facility in the Bay Area, and they benefit from their elderly residents who don't complain because they don't want trouble. My aunt and uncle were harassed and served an eviction notice after their daughter filed a complaint with the Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) of California's Department of Social Services. This complaint about a medication mixup that le... read more

This place is great when your loved ones are pretty healthy. The staff can take care of the most basic needs your parents might have like laundry, medication dispensing, and food. All good there. But things change significantly when your parent starts to get worse. Now I get having to charge more for more services, but when my mom's care costs went from 8000 a month to 16000 a month over a two month period, it was, obviously, unsustainable. They said my mom was waking up in the middle of the night, disrupting the entire... read more
