Unprofessional staff members.
Our dad was at Alta Vista for three weeks. He fell five times in six or seven days. If they are totally independent then it's a good place. However, they are understaffed at night. Before we moved him in he needed help going to the bathroom at night. That was our main focus. I don't think I told you he fell 5 times in six or seven days because they were not checking on him. We got him out. He was only there three weeks.
In terms of quality there are re couple bright spots in staff. This is helpful in dealing with the issues that invariably come up. But generally the care is not commensurate with the cost. And the constant requests to renegotiate the cost is oppressive. We chose the community based on presentation, people care and cost. Our expectations were immediately impacted after contract signing and upon move in when the day of move in they attempted to renegotiate the cost and care level. My mother recently passed [date removed] however the care that she received while staying here was adequate. She started out in independent living and was transferred to memory care where she lived until she passed. The staff seemed stretched thin and flustered at times and I would get different answers from people at different times when I would ask for updates. I appreciated their willingness to work with my mother's financial restrictions.
FRIENDLY STAFF MEMBERS IS A MAJOR PLUS. GREAT ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR. "CHICKEN" SERVED TOO OFTEN IN MEALS COMMEDABLE CHOICES FOR MAJOR ACTIVITIES + HAPPY HOURS MUSIC GROUPS.
Alta Vista smelled like urine when you walked in. There were a lot of people hanging out in the hallways in their wheelchairs looking like they were going to drool on themselves at any moment. It was sad.
Very slow and no information when you need it. Not much to do
Not a good location, no views at all.
I was not impressed with my tour of this community at all. The staff seemed like they did not want to be there and did not fit the job of working for the elderly. The floor plan was not my favorite and the room they showed us was completely trashed. The overall facility was run down and very dark and gloomy. The outside was just concrete around the entire building as well. Overall this is just not a place I would want my mother to be living in.
