In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Madras Black Bear Diner is a traditional stop for us anytime we visit or vacation in Central Oregon. Sandra always remembers us and we love the food! Always fun to see Sandra.
We stop here often with our travels to Bend and back to Portland. The portions are large and the quality is consistent. I love the taco salad. The waitress Kimberly was awesome bringing us all the things you need when you have little ones in tow. Our only awkward moment was with the hostess, maybe she was having a bad day, but no smile, just gave us a blank stare as well as others she seated.
