Established in 2003. Black Mesa is a high-desert links style layout that weaves its way around and over sandstone foothills on the Santa Clara Pueblo located thirty minutes north of Santa Fe. Designed by Baxter Spann, the course opened in 2003 to numerous accolades including "Best New Affordable Course" by Golf Digest and one of the" Top Ten Courses You Can Play" that debuted that year by GOLF Magazine. What an amazing location. The golf was good, but could be even better. Last 4 holes world class..
If you're in the Santa Fe area this is a don't miss place. Scenic vistas everywhere and course was in perfect shape. Greens have huge slopes in them and are severe. Playing this place is an adventure with all the elevation changes and uphill and downhill shots. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Green fee on a Saturday was $99. Less than half of Paako Ridge and $30 less than Twin Warriors. Be aware they don't take American Express cards. I'd choose this place if I was only playing once in the area..
Really nice course, in great condition. As I'm learning seems traditional for New Mexico courses, this course has gravel/dirt paths for both golf carts and walkers. I didn't see any walkers today but seems like it is walked by some golfers. The track is very hilly and thank goodness for powerful golf carts! Lou was today's starter--nice guy, really helpful to show me around, give me a couple pointers on #1 and #2. Hope to be back!
Absolutely loved this course! Greens wwre in great condition and fast. The staff was friendly. This was our second course in NM making our way to Colorado for 7 more courses we were playing for our annual summer golf trip.. Black Mesa was definitely worth the stop and easily comparable to the more expensive courses we have played. Loved the long greens.
My wife and I played 18 holes here on July 28th 2023. I play this course about once a year and I was just blown away by how immaculate the fairways and greens were. Greens were on the fast side which was nice. Players beware: this course has dramatic undulating fairways and undulating greens. Every single hole is unique and surrounded by the beautiful rustic New Mexico landscape. There is a driving range, putting and chipping green, and the staff are very amiable. Ask the starter where the actual Black Mesa is and he will po... read more
